O/T: Singer? LOL! Can you identify this car?…

April 30 2007, 7:54 PM

Bought it from another young guy who drove a 50's-vintage Singer roadster as a daily driver. He also owned an old MG sedan of similar vintage – open wings, etc.

Can't remember if the Commission Number was E3SCL987 or E3SC987L. I owned it 1974-76. I never got it roadworthy, but did drive it a bit in my backyard, where brakes were not necessary. It was my only car with a 4-speed column shift, tubular steel chassis, aluminum body, and torsion bar suspension. I was told that mine was the only one delivered new to the Territory of Hawaii.

Cordially,
Bruce

Right you are, John!…

May 1 2007, 8:02 PM

When posted, I figured that a correct response would come from one of the Commonwealth countries.

First saw the car two years earlier, and ridiculed its name and looks – nowhere near as "sleek" as the TR-3 I was driving at the time. After a bit of research (remember libraries?), I realized its rarity and bought it with the intention of full restoration. Alas, this college student couldn't afford the necessary expenses. I flatly refused suggestions to butcher the car with hot rod modifications!

Hmm… time to contact the Jowett Car Club for info on its current whereabouts…

Cordially,
Bruce
