I assume that the hasegawa kit is really the best but between the other two which one is the best build? Thanks so much.

The Academy kit is not even in the same league

December 15 2011, 11:49 PM

The Revell/Hasegawa F-4E is a very nice kit, but the Academy 48th F-4E is the same old 1/50th copy of the Fujimi kit; It's horribly inaccurate; Stay far away!

It's Academy's

which is a "recessed panel copy" of the old Fujimi 1/50th F-4E.

Original Academy:

Again, it's horribly inaccurate.

In a nutshell; late 70s Fujimi came out with their 1/50th F-4E, which had raised panel lines. In 1980, Academy/Minicraft (at the time, not to be confused with Minicraft of today) basically copied the Fujimi kit, but in recessed panel line form. The copied every inaccuracy, right down to the under-scaling.

Fast forward to today: instead of tooling a new F-4E, Academy took cheesy (in this case -pitiful) way out by resurrecting that awful 1/50th F-4E from the early 80s.

Fujimi kit is recessed

AFAIK... I have one I was building on recently. The kit is pretty clean and the surface detailing wasnt bad... its just not accurate and has no cockpit, etc.

of the versions I've seen. I'm looking at one now in the boxing I posted above and it has all raised panel lines....

You are correct, sir!

December 16 2011, 3:15 PM

And the Fujimi came out not in the late '70s but in the very early '70s or the late '60s. I either had one before I left high school ('72) or it was on the side of the box of the A-4 I built in high school.

Undersized and not very detailed, not 100% accurate in shape but it DOES all fit well and go together easily!

I can tell you that it IS ACTUALLY the Fujimi kit, thats because I remember the "bullet" shaped exhaust cans in the kit, and the Mk117 bombs that came with it. I built this kit around the mid-'70s and thought it was pretty neat, though the pilot figures were completely miss-shapenned, there was no way they would have fit in the cockpit!

The 1/48 Revell F-4E IS the Hasegawa kit in a Revell box

December 16 2011, 1:52 PM

One of those good deals out there! I got mine when they were dumping a lot of the ProModeler boxed Hase kits cheap: A-4E, F-4E, Bf109F (1/32), Arado 234. All went for about $10 each. The older Monogram now revell kits of the F-4C and F-4J are the raised panel line kits of yore.

Note that Revell has their own F-4E that has been sold off and on since the mid 70s by Revell and REvell Germany
