Color for Buffalo life raft cannister?

I'm doing an F2A-2 with yellow wings and markings for VF-3. The Tamiya instructions call for aluminum for the cylindrical life raft canister behind the seat, but in the few photographs I can find it looks darker -- black? Anybody know for sure?

Thanks!

This is probably an F2A-3 and much later than your yellow-wing -2...

...but it shows the life raft as being the same colour as the interior (in this case, interior green) which perhaps suggests Aluminium could be the right colour.

I'm sure Jim Maas (WKBS) will be along in a while to provide a real answer.

Cheers,

F2A-2 liferaft container

For the F2A-1 and -2, every photo I've ever seen shows this container as black. Which could explain, when parked under strong sun, why the heat buldup caused the raft to spontaneously inflate. Now there's a diorama idea.

The rest of the interior is aluminum lacquer, except for the forward side panels on the cockpit wall which were antiglare black. E-mail me at jimmaas@aol.com if you need photos. And remember the 1 foot wide antiglare panel extending from the windscreen to the cowling!
