Dead Duck - Classic Airframes

I recently picked up the Grumman Duck kit by Classic Airframes. This has been on my "Want" list for some time and I was pretty excited to get the kit for a reasonable price. Regretfully, the seller didn't realize that the plastic bag containing the resin parts had gone missing. This may be a very long shot in the dark, but might anyone have or know of, a source for these parts? I thought that there might be a "Dead Duck", a parts kit or wrecked build, that I could get the parts off of. Or, being a Grumman aircraft, maybe there is a kit in production I can use for donor parts and scratch build the rest of what I might need.

If all else fails, the seller has offered to take the kit back. But, then I have no Duck - Quack....

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ric

May want to proceed without....

I completed my duck back in February of this year. Just my opinion but you should proceed with out the resin if you really want a duck. The resin that came with the kit was of marginal quality at best. You can probably do better scratch building the interior parts your self and using some parts from spares box for radios and such. The engine you can probably get one from one of the after market suppliers. The engine that came with the kit was poorly cast and not that detailed. As for the prop, go to your spares. The one in the kit is too large anyways. Just my opinion. Good luck if you proceed, my kit had wings that were very warped and injection voids where the plastic didn't fill in completely or seemed to run into plastic coming from a different direction. I had fun with it because I wasn't trying to build a show model. That said it is probably the worst injection molded kit I have ever built, and second worst kit of any variety.

Different production run??

April 13 2012, 7:45 PM

I picked up the -5/6 kit shortly after its release and really enjoyed the kit. I found no flaws, and the parts fit great. The resin was well cast, though lacking in detail. The engine wasn't horrible, but I did add wires and push rods.

Still, the plastic parts themselves fit wonderfully and I barely used any filler. Maybe there was a later production run that didnt mold so well?
