Just got the new Airfix 109 - and I think it is fair to say that in the box it looks rather nice and that the Airfix trenchdigger has been shown the door - however have one query about the box art/colour scheme.

the box art shows a thin line of the uppersurface green colour coming forward from the windscreen - presumably on the basis that this was the original colour demarcation line but the replacement panel had the demarcation at a slightly higher level, leaving a thin line of green just below the panel line for the gun cowling panel.

This is possibly shown in the first photo of the attached thread - or is it just shadow?

I think it's shadow. This panel would have been removed to make the guns safe and has been put back but not fastened hence casting a shadow.

Von Werra query - thanks

That's what I thought, but looking closely, does that third picture down actually show a thin line of green after all.

Whether it's there or not, it shows the level of detail the Airfix box artist is prepared to put into his/her artwork which must be amongst the best around now.

One minor point I've just noticed though - no big deal and only a problem for airframes where the armoured headrest has been removed - the bottom edges of the opening canopy include a notch to locate the armour - this will need filling for Von Werra's aircraft and others like it

You're right - the color goes below the panelline at the front

Do a google picture search for Franz von Werra and you'll find some photos showing his aircraft in clean condition before the panelchange that clearly shows the color to go slightly below the panelline.

Cheers! / Anders
