then I went to apply a decal and used microscal liquid decal film rather than what I though was microscale MicoSet in the very similar blue bottle ruined the decal, no big deal I have other national insignia. Tried to wash away with a lot of water but it seems there is a residue on the wing. What can I do to remove it. Hopefully without trashing the entire finish. Thanks for any suggestions.
Just an FYI soap and water didn't work, alcohol didn't work, but paint thinner striped the whole thing down. So I went ahead and striped it. Cleaned it up and just repainted the wing. Probably would have been a lot easier just to do that in the first place.
Re: Well thanks for the advice. It was lacquer based.

If you used paint thinner to remove lacquer and/or enamel and it didn't seriously screw up the plastic count yourself lucky. There are other styrene friendly ways of removing paint, I usually use oven cleaner but I'm sure some other birds will chirp up with their favourite products.
It's like I'm reading myself. Did the same thing a couple weeks ago! I don't know why I had the decal saver even open. I must have thought it was the decal solvent to go along with the decal set I was using at the time. It sure made a mess of the Future coat and ruined the NMF underneath. I was able to save the day by calming down, letting it all set up again and cutting down the glob with Micromesh polishing cloths of various grades. Then I cut a piece of silver decal to completely cover the affected panel and applied same. After applying more decals, the persons I asked to identify the mistake could not, unless I pointed the area out to them. So it worked out ok.
