Cowl flaps: aluminum or steel?

Specifically thinking about the one on the Spruce Goose which appear to have been unpainted.

For the "Goose's" cowl flaps, go with appears to be Aluminum NMF. I've got pics if you want?

I have a bunch of photos from airliners.net etc. But if you have any close-ups let me know.

I'm making all the cowl flaps out of sheet styrene, and I'm making exhaust stacks (14 x 8) out of rectangular styrene stock. Tedious but the ones in the kit are no good.

Judging from what I saw when I was there two years ago...

the cowl flaps would be steel. The exhaust stubs for the 27 cylinder engines are right them, and they would have to deal with a tremendous amount of heat.
