as to how old the Nichimo Nakajima B5N2 kit is. Kit number S008006. I have Googled it but al I can find is Ebay kits for sale.
Reason I ask is I decided to start this one while I wait for my resin engines for the DC 4. The plastic is hard and brittle with lots of flash.

Kit dates back to 1972

And was in pretty much constant production until Nichimo went bankrupt a couple of years ago. I recall the kit had some minor flash but nothing really bad.

1/48 Nichimo Kate

March 19 2017, 8:08 PM

Fred, I built one of these sometime in the early 1970s.

I recall being very impressed with this kit at the time, especially with the interior detail. The recessed rivets were something I hadn't seen before in a model kit, as all the Aurora and Monogram kits I had built before had raised rivets all over the place.

And the Nichimo Kate had recessed panel lines, too. I always wondered how Nichimo did so well with their Kate kit that they came up kind of short with the Jake kit.

Yes it is 1/48

The old Fujimi Val was 1/50 but that has nothing to do with the Nichimo Kate

A fun build…

I remember building this one back sometime in the 80s. I really enjoyed the build and I don't recall any build issues.

I remember being really impressed with the cockpit detail.

If anyone's interested, here's more pics of the finished kit:

That's one of their better kits

I have a couple Nichimo 1/48 airplanes in my stash, mostly their copies of Monogram kits, but the Kate is a nice kit, considering its time and the maker.
