Strange tracted device ...

No idea what it could be. Lower right center from the P-38 with a cover and towbar.
"P-38J serial 42-68048 at Duxford parked next to a P-47 'Mud N' Mules' serial 42-76141 of the 350th FS, 353rd FG April 1944".

back then that used tracks instead of tires. Seemed to be early in the war though. This may be one of those trailers repurposed for mounting what ever is under the tarp?

That is an emergency airfield lighting set. Under the tarp is the regulators (transformers) for the lighting kit. Notice the cable reel next to it.
The generator is on the left side. I have set up the modern USAF EALS sets in Kuwait and Iraq. Look up TO 08-20-3 and 08-20-4.

Looks like an American GE generator with a British 90cm searchlight- those little tracked wheels on the searchlight are a dead giveaway

Only just saw this, it is indeed a British "Projector, 90cm, Searchlight". I assume the generator is a US model as it doesn't look like the standard Lister generator used for these?
