There was recent discussion on Britmodeller:

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235023295-eduard-148-brassin-spitfire-top-cowl/

that the Brassin cowl top was too long. I didn't notice any comments about fit in the review, and this seems a rather significant factor for a "drop in" replacement.

Interesting and disappointing

Fortunately I have barracuda pieces for my 1/48 spits but now I feel I should check out my 1/72 eduard spit and brassin cowl and see of that's an issus as well.

1/72: Brassin cowl is a hair too long - but easily fixable ...

some judicious sanding on the firewall side takes care of the length difference without risking the loss of detail . Be careful to sand perpendicular to the edge, though.

A Hair? It's 1mm longer and over detailed

July 18 2017, 5:13 AM

1mm is quite a lot to get it wrong when it's your own kit you are making it for. Plus they've detailed the Zeus fasteners with rivet, which are not on the kit cowlings so it doesn't match the rest of the kit ( their own kit! ) - waste of money. The Barracudacast cowl, though more expensive, matches the kit and fits I know where my money is going.

if it is a correction part you shouldn't have to correct it, no? NT

Not really a "correction" piece per se, more of a simplification

July 17 2017, 5:05 PM

But still it shouldn't need any alteration to fit their own kit.

Yeah, a "simplification" should be "simple"

I think I shall give a try to the plastic parts.

I found that Barrracudacast and Ultracast

July 18 2017, 9:50 PM

both fit as designed. I've used two of each on my builds and had no problems. I've not had a chance to use the Brassin one yet. If it doesn't fit I'd be surprised as every other Brassin item I've used has fit as designed.
