Just wanted to drop by and remind everyone of the upcoming IPMS Region II Conventionin Virginia Beach, VA.

IPMS Tidewater is proud and honored to host this year’s event and have appropriately named it

TidewaterCON 2006.

A regional convention is more than just another local contest; it brings together not just modelers from Region 2 but from adjacent regions too. We have planned this year’s convention to be something special. We plan to give you a little bit more than you expect. TidewaterCON will be a full day and a half event.

Our convention theme is: Tidewater : a History of Innovation. It recognizes the innovations, both military and civil, that have their roots in the region. The innovations range from the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia, to Ely’s first flight from a warship, to the pioneering research at NASA Langley – including NASCAR wind tunnel testing!

IPMS Tidewater is no stranger to hosting Regional and National conventions and we are once again partnering with the City of Virginia Beach to provide a superb location for TidewaterCON. The Pavilion, site of the 1996 and 2002 national conventions, is gone. In its place is a brand new facility, the Virginia Beach Convention Center. We think that you will agree this brand new facility is an improvement over the old.

We have also once again partnered with the Doubletree Hotel to provide deluxe accommodations within an easy stroll of the facility. If you choose to turn your visit into a long weekend, there is certainly plenty to see and do. Tidewater Virginia (also known as Hampton Roads) has a lot of attractions of interest to modelers. Nauticus, the National Maritime Center and the USS Wisconsin in Norfolk; the Virginia Air and Space Museum in Hampton; the Mariners Museum in Newport News and the Army Transportation Museum at Ft. Eustis are but a few of the treats awaiting visitors with an interest in history.

The weather in late October is pleasant and, with tourist season over, you won’t have to fight the crowds at the beach.

So don’t miss out this October. We look forward to greeting you at the door!
