IPMS/AMPS EAST 2010 is fast approaching on September 24-25, 2010. This will be a first for the show, now being held for 2 days! For more info on the show itself, go to:
http://www.ipmsnmma.org/ . WE NEED JUDGES! For those of you who have attended the extravaganza, youll remember we have had 250+ models at this show. The Nationals were not held on the east coast this year and the last time this happened we broke all earlier records. I am anticipating a replay of 2008 this year. For the AMPS system, that requires 4 judges for every piece, thats a lot of man-hours. If you are coming and you are competing, I would strongly suggest you consider a judging tour. Theyre 90 minutes long and will help us out a lot. The judges meeting is at 9:00 am on Friday and 8:00 am on Saturday. Traditionally, a thank you for the judges has been first crack at the vendors. However, this will ONLY be done on FRIDAY morning. Ideally, Id like to have manpower for 3 tables to start the show (12 judges and one runner). In addition, we will also need data entry personnel (2 per shift). We use a very simple Excel format program, so it is easy to use. All that is needed is decent eyesight and attention to detail. So please, if you are planning on coming to the show the night before, and staying at the hotel, Id really appreciate it if you would come and lend a hand early on. Im going to post the sign-up sheet on the web. It wont be interactive, but just send me an e-mail to the address on the bottom of the page and Ill get you in. It will, however, be on a first-come, first-serve basis and Ill use the posting time as my determining factor. Heres the url for the schedule:

For those of you who are ambitious, crazy and dogged enough, we are going to be holding an AMPS Judge Certification class at 7 pm on Friday night. You have to preregister with me (via e-mail) beforehand. The class is limited to 16 people (4 tables). In order to qualify for the class, you must have judged for at least 2 years at AMPS-style events. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to e-mail me at the address below.
There is a note of etiquette and courtesy to your fellow competitors and show staff Id like to bring up. Last year, we had people who brought a lot of models for competition and then did not help with the show. While this works fine at an IPMS-style judging arrangement, it is death for an AMPS show. It effectively floods the judges with models and gives no additional manpower to move entries through the system. Last year we had judges who sat for 3 hours straight. It is unfair to ask them to do it again. If you dont feel qualified to judge (for whatever reason), there are plenty of administrative jobs to be done in running the show.
