There will be more picks on Wednesday ....

January 27 2003, 10:15 PM

but my only choice for Tuesday is ......

100 Points Middlesbrough to beat Aston Villa
2.00 Bet Internet

Team News

Middlesbrough
George Boateng is a possible to return after recovering from a knee injury. Both Alen Boksic and Noel Whelan though are doubtful.
Aston Villa
They received clearance to play Joey Gudjonsson for this fixture who has joined them from Real Betis

Home / Away Form
Middlsbrough have yet to lose at the Riverside this season and Aston Villa have yet to win on their travels. Middlesbrough reserve all their best performances for their own fans having beaten both Liverpool and Man Utd this season. Aston Villa are without a win in 11 losing 7 and drawing 4 games this season

Recent Form
Middlesbrough are due a result, they are without a win in 5, indeed have lost 4 of those. Aston Villa are without a win in 2 games, although they can draw confidence from their draw at Anfield in their last league game

Head to Head
In their last 4 meetings at the Riverside each side has won 1 game and they have fought out 2 draws. Last year Middlesbrough won the corresponding fixture 2-1

Value Test
With a few firms offering odds of 2.00 for Middlesbrough to pass the value test, somebookmakers need to be offering 1.80 or less. With Ladbrokes offering only 1.80 and William Hill a miserly 1.72, they pass this test with flying colours

Summary
To qualify as a bet, a team needs to pass the value test and also be strong in at least one other category. Middlesbrough look way out best in the Home / away comparison and pass the value criteria as well. As an addition their ex-players Southgate, Ehiogu and Boateng will think they have a point to prove against their former club

Good points Mark. Looks a value bet. Like i said before lots of fanciable draws this midweek. Namely everton away to bolton sunderland at home to southampton. These three bets look good value. But betting on draws can be extremely unreliable. But i think they are the favourites for those two specified matched

Big respect

Man City v Fulham ................

January 29 2003, 10:34 AM

100 Points Man City to beat Fulham
1.90 Premierbet , UK Betting

Team News
Man City
New signing David Sommeil is in line for his debut. More importantly though key players Peter Schmeichel and influential playmaker Eyal Berkovic are expected to return
Fulham
Louis Saha is hoping to play but missed the match against Charlton with a hamstring injury. Already missing are Dutch goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar and Lee Clark

Home / Away Form
Man City have won 6 of their 11 home games, losing 4 and drawing the other 1. They have won their last 2 at home against Leeds and Aston Villa
Fulham have 1 win in 11 on their travels, and none in their last 8 games. 5 goals in those 8 games certainly highlights where their problems lie.

Recent Form
Before their loss at Newcastle, City had won 3 of their 4 league games including wins against Leeds, Aston Villa and today's opponents Fulham.
Fulham won their last game against Middlesbrough, but prior to that have had no wins in 5 games. Only 4 goals in their last 8 games is a poor record

Head to Head
They met only a month ago at Loftus Road with Man City winning through a late Anelka goal. They have met twice in the League at Maine Road since 1998 and Man City won both by the scores of 4-0 and 3-0. Man City have also won 3 of the last 4 on any ground.

Value Test
1.90 is available with Premierbet and UK Betting so on my newly formed sliding scale, some bookmakers need to be offering 1.73 or less to pass the value test. Bet365, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Bet and Win all offer that price or lower.

Summary
City will be buoyed by the signing of Sommeil and the impending arrival of Robbie Fowler. But most importantly Schmeichel and Berkovic are expected to return. Schmeichel was magnificent in denying Fulham in their fixture a month ago which City won. Berkovic is their key playmaker which makes them tick, and his slide rule passes to Anelka are a pivotal part of their game. Fulham have a woeful scoring record so far this year, and with the possibility of Saha missing that is not about to get any better. However take nothing for granted, as Aston Villa proved that theory wrong by blasting 5 past Boro last night.

Man City ...........

January 29 2003, 2:56 PM

have been trimmed by both Premierbet and UK Betting and they are generally available at 1.83 now. At that price I would be inclined to pass or at least reduce my stake.

Betfair still offer 1.89 though but there is commission to pay out of that
