Dundee United have sacked manager Paul Hegarty and are poised to install Falkirk boss Ian McCall as his successor.
McCall and the rest of his management team have handed in their resignations, but the Falkirk board have refused to accept them.
That followed the Falkirk board's refusal to allow Dundee United owner Eddie Thompson to speak to McCall.
McCall turned down the chance to take over from previous Dundee United boss Alex Smith in October, paving the way for Hegarty to take over.
Hegarty was appointed at the start of November, but the club's results have failed to improve and they are currently a point adrift at the bottom of the Scottish Premier League.
United lost 2-0 to Celtic on Wednesday night after being knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Hibs at the weekend.
The news of Hegarty's dismissal comes as something of a surprise despite the club's poor run of 11 games without a win.
United had been extensively involved in the transfer market during the January transfer window, although it is thought that chairman Eddie Thompson was heavily involved in identifying transfer targets.
