4 out....

Four out of Slovenia squad

LJUBLJANA, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Defender Muamer Vugdalic and midfielders Amir Karic and Mladen Rudonja have pulled out injured from Slovenia's squad for the friendly with Switzerland on Wednesday.

Slovenia's Soccer Association have also confirmed defender Fabijan Cipot will also miss the match as he wants to avoid making a longhaul journey from Qatar where he plays for Al Sadd Sports Club.

Coach Bojan Prasnikar has drafted in defenders Matej Mavric and Suad Filekovic as late replacements to the squad.

'This is the last match ahead of further Euro qualifications and Slovenia hopes to win it despite the absence of the four players,' association spokesman Rok Sinkovc told Reuters.

Slovenia will host Cyprus in their next Euro 2004 qualifier in April.

Slovenian squad:

Goalkeepers: Mladen Dabanovic (Lokeren), Marko Simeunovic (Olympiakos Nicosia)

Defenders: Spasoje Bulajic (FSV Mainz 05), Bostjan Cesar (Dinamo Zagreb), Aleksander Knavs (Kaiserslautern), Matej Mavric (Nova Gorica), Suad Filekovic (Maribor)

Midfielders: Milenko Acimovic (Tottenham Hotspur), Nastja Ceh (Club Brugge), Miran Pavlin (Olimpija Ljubljana), Aleksander Radosavljevic (Shinnik Jaroslavi), Goran Sukalo (SpVgg Unterhaching), Zlatko Zahovic (Benfica), Anton Zlogar (Olimpija Ljubljana)

Forwards: Sebastjan Cimirotic (Lecce), Ermin Rakovic (Maribor), Ermin Siljak (Panionios GS)

my advice

February 11 2003, 10:34 PM

is - stay away !!! Friendly games are always tricky. Slovenian team wants to recover form after abysmal performance on tournament in Portugal in January. Swiss players still remember loss 0:1 in Basel in WC qualifier after unbeliveable mistake made by Stephane Henchoz.

I smell draw but as I already said: save your money for better opportunities.

If we cooperate, we can win!
Tom

JHim, believe or not, 4 years success was all because of Zahovič (Captain) and Katanec (Manager and perfect motivator)duo.
Now, when Katanec is gone (perhaps you remember, what happened on WorldCup) it is all over for us, we always lacked talent, anyways...

To add just a bit more- of all 20+ players who played for our team these years nobody managed to find a club in Europe!! (only 2nd divisions). Only exceptainons were Knavs, who is a class player at Kaiserslautern and Pavlin, who was a member of Porto (because of friendship with Zahovič, who used to play there) but never played in regular team.
It was really only the result of 90 minutes fight and motivation, we loved that squad, they bring us 4 beautiful years, but it is all over now, I am afraid...

Swiss

No matter how good or bad Slovenia is, drowning my sorrow in wine never even noticed that game, as I should have known better..
Had 'argument' with a fella from another forum (member on this one too) when they beat Ireland, did not want to come near them, wish I did.
Seams they are investing in soccer, as I found out later they have juniors champions of Europe too I think.

The greatest pleasure in life is to win !!!
