Buick Invitational
This week sees the return of Tiger Woods after surgery. This always put a heavy slant on the betting with Tiger occupying a large part of the bookmakers takeout. Because this is Tiger's first start of the year it is worthwhile looking elsewhere for the winner although he is greatly respected and it would be no surprise should he manage to win. After all his form figures for his last 5 visits read 5-4-2-1-3, truly amazing.
With Tiger in the field it is prudent to keep stakes low on a couple of outsiders for whom the course sets up well. This tournament has traditionally suited long drivers of the ball and my two against the field this week are Angel Cabrera and Rory Sabbatini.
Cabrera makes his bow for the year here but there is no reason why he cannot be fully tuned up here. Last year in his strokeplay bow he finished in 5th place at the Genuity Championship. He fits the criteria of being a long driver and 100/1 seems a little insulting to a player of his calibre.
Sabbatini finished 5th in this event last year, and if you couple that fact with his current form then you have a solid pick on your hands. In his opening 3 tournaments thus far he has improved in each one to register the form figures 27-18-10. Like Cabrera, length of the tee is his main weapon, one that suits this tournament set up down to the ground.
