Ladbrokes Millionaire Maker

Hi
I had heard about this excellent idea by ladbrokes before but you could only do by actually visiting a bookie!
Well last night i found that they had started taking the bet online which is great!
For those of you that dont know much about it i have copyed and pasted the rules from the site :-

For each of the 20 matches, simply click on the button to indicate Home, Away or Draw. When you have completed all 20 matches click on the BET button at the bottom.

The cost is £2 per entry (or 2 units of your chosen currency) and you can enter as many times as you like.

Don’t worry if you don’t get all 20 match predictions correct, you can win other amounts for the first 5, 10 and 15 correct. See table below:

Predict the first 5 correctly – Win at least £10 (or 10 units of currency)
Predict the first 10 correctly – Win at least £1,000 (or 1,000 units)
Predict the first 15 correctly – Win at least £10,000 (or 10,000 units)
Predict all 20 correctly – Win £1 MILLION (or 1 Million units)
The Ladbrokes Millionaire bet consists of four accumulators – 1 x 5 fold, 1 x 10 fold, 1 x 15 fold and 1 x 20 fold.

Each £2 Ladbrokes Millionaire bet is divided as follows:

Matches 1-5 50p
Matches 1-10 90p
Matches 1-15 20p
Matches 1-20 40p

Returns will be based on the individual odds for each match at the time the bet was placed. The prices on this coupon may fluctuate. However, this does not affect the guaranteed minimum payouts.

For payout purposes, each guaranteed minimum includes the returns from each of the successful accumulators. Winnings can only be collected once your bet has finished.

The maximum payout is £1 Million Click here for information on clarification of maximum payout rules.

The unit stake for the Ladbrokes Millionaire is £2 or (2 units of currency)

If a unit stake of less than £2 is accepted in error, all bets will be settled in proportion to the stake placed. Guaranteed minimum payouts will no longer apply.

If a unit stake of over £2 is accepted in error, the overpaid amount will be refunded, win or lose.

The Ladbrokes Millionaire bet will only be accepted on this coupon. Singles or other bets will not be accepted on this coupon. If accepted in error, the bet will be settled at the odds for each match at the time the bet was placed. Guaranteed minimums will no longer apply.

The minimum payout levels do not apply where one or more matches do not take place. Bets will be settled on the remaining selections at the odds for each match at the time the bet was placed.

In the instances not covered by these rules, Ladbrokes Football Rules apply.

So i thought i would start doing this every saturday anyway but as for this forum i wasnt sure how viable it would be for Mark/Jhim to do a Poll of the 20 matches that the competition is on.
So that we would end up with a majority % on each match of home Draw Away
Then we could go back it accordingly and surely a 1000 heads must be better than one!
The thing i like is that just to get the 1st five right you get 5 times your stake!
And also for a small outlay it could bring a fair amount of excitement and enjoyment and surely we wont find it that hard to get at least the 1st five right once in a five week period which if so means we break even .

What do people think to this idea and also Jhim/Mark is it viable for the poll ??

I for one will be doing each week and even if doesnt take off we could have 1 thread each saturday for it sowe can see how we all got on , well those that chose to play Obvioulsy

Z

The Actual Odds

The millionaire coupon is fun and interesting alright, however the actual odds of winning the 1 Million and getting all three 20 correct, using random picks are 1 in 1,162,261,467. Now there are some odds for you!

It's amazing ...

March 9 2003, 8:48 AM

how a little bit of advertising pap can turn even experienced gamblers into mathematical illiterates !!

I'll make an assumption that they don't have any "bankers" in the mix for the coupon ... and so that most games have odds where the lowest price is evens (2.00) for a correct result.

Then it's simple maths ...

First 5 correct = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 32.00
(They offer 10 ??)

First 10 correct = 32 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 1024

First 15 correct = 1024 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 32,768

All 20 is ... 1,048,576 !!

And of course the odds are probably higher than 2.00 in many cases ...

The advertising is trying to tempt you into a 5-fold to 20-fold accumulator ... and the bookie won't even pay out the full winnings as it's limited to 1 million !!

What a deal ...
Anyone want to buy the Sydney Harbour bridge ???
It's going cheap

Hell it was only supposed to be a bit of fun!!
You are talking about £2 blimin quid!
And yes the first 5 are 1.44 and above and they get progressively harder!
What is the big deal lads!!!!!!!!!!
For me i will be doing each week as is only £2 and it will be a bit of fun as i like to be tested so each week i will always try and beat my previous best if you get what i mean.
So when i get to 5 correct in row i get 5 times my stake returned so my record is 5 and i push on for 6 and so on, and if miracle you get to 10 then you are getting a very nice payout then!!
As apart from the Million for 20 all the other payout progressions you get the higher of the actual return or the minimum payout!

I for 1 for the sake of £2 will be playing and i was trying to get us all involved in something that was/should be fun and add a bit of excitement!

Sorry for bothering
No wonder i dont make these suggestions very often!

Thanks to Jhim who thought it sounded ok and that was about it LOL

We were the only 2 Jhim

£££££££'s

March 9 2003, 11:01 AM

Z,

I have put this bet on twice (in Laddies shops they have been doing it for months)

On both times I have managed to predict less than half correct !

I do agree for £2 it's only a bit of fun but if you want to start a thread then I'll gladly compare our selections - who knows 20 correct one week and you'll see my mug all over laddies shops !

Nevermind - there is always next week !

Gooner. I do not believe your odds are correct. There are not 2 possible outcomes in a match. There are 3.
Therefore 3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 = well in excess of a billion.

Sorry for not being clear ...

March 10 2003, 9:18 AM

Bookie Buster,

I wasn't talking about possible outcomes at all ... where did you get that idea? Of course each game has three outcomes.

I WAS just pointing out that many of the games have the lowest odds at around evens (or 2.00) ... so that even if you took the lowest priced options on all the games (and therefore the most likely?) you would still come up with a price of well over 1 million after 20 games.

Ladbrokes cap the payout at 1 million, and their guarenteed minimums are always likely to be exceeded. To my mind there is notthing special about their offer at all .. other than an advertising budget.

Zland (and others) have a go by all means, spend your £2 and "have fun", on a 5-fold, 10-fold, 15-fold, or even a 20-fold ... far be it from me to talk someone out of a bet !!

However, there is NO EDGE in Ladbrokes offer, indeed there is a payout cap that is a minus. So you will probably be better off making up your own coupon ... and not helping Laddies to recover their advertising costs !!

good luck Z and big slim

March 10 2003, 4:37 PM

hope you hit the jackpot.

When I lived in England I used to bet on Hills and Ladbrokes coupons, pick 2 or 3 from each section(usually 7 sections) with the games becoming harder to predict the further you went down the coupon, always with the promise of massive odds but never having any luck.
so decided to pick my strongest selections from the whole coupon, maybe 20 - 30 picks then work out what the return would be to a 50p stake up to their max payout(250000 at the time) then just put that bet on, might reach 22nd selection or so,surprising how it jumps up with a couple of draws in there, never had any big wins(no wins to be honest) but like Z said just a fun bet, but it stopped them dictating what games I could or couldn't bet on.
and by the way, the Sydney harbour bridge isn't for sale, I've already put a deposit on it.

Bookie Buster, Bookie Buster ...

March 10 2003, 7:33 PM

I am very sorry, but I am afraid that your statement of "There are not 2 possible outcomes in a match. There are 3." is far from correct.

There are, in fact, four possible outcomes.

1) Home win
2) The draw
3) Away win
4) A bunch of rabid Torino supporters suddenly materialises, start tearing the stadium to pieces and hurling chairs and other debris onto the pitch. The game is then called off with the away team leading 3-0.

Not that this matters at all with regards to The Gooner's statement about this not being the best use of your hard-earned £2.

It has, however, totally messed up my percentage estimations for any given match.
