Watching the first qualifying as I type, will post results shortly. Feel free to add your thoughts. We may have a very entertaining race, with an already notoriously bumpy track and a chance of rain on Sunday

Back in a bit.....

Barrichello?????

April 4 2003, 7:16 PM

In 1973 , 1983 and 1993 Brazilian GP was won by Brazilians. In 2003 ....

Abraços.

Another interesting point

April 4 2003, 7:16 PM

Rubens has never managed to finish a Brasilian Gran Prix in 8 attempts, maybe you will get better money on Da Matta who is also Brasilian

April 4 2003, 7:31 PM

... you will not have the excuse of having not been warned. If it rains (as today), Rubens has a chance. Additionally, as we say here in Brazil

There is always a first time....

Mark Webber

April 4 2003, 8:40 PM

For those wondering about a certain match up with Olivier Panis, Webber actually did pretty well in this one last year and finished ahead of Panis and reached 11th place after panis crashed out . The rain could be the things though and Panis would have more experience in that, remember his good podium finish in the wet in Monaco a few seasons ago now. I think Webber is worth a shot at 2.10 though with betinternet, if it does stay dry he has shown great speed!

Zoccer

April 4 2003, 8:50 PM

it woudl be great to see a brasilian win and it can happen, I think they get hit by nerves though as they don't have a lot of luck, if you take a look back at the last 5 races only, about 7 or 8 different Brasilians have competed and only two have managed to finish the race on single occasions, Zonta and Massa. So it may be more likely a rookie may have more luck than Rubens

.... now that Rubens got the pole I wish I had taken him yesterday @ 6.8 as I recall. Metheorology says that there is a fair chance or rain tomorrow at the race time.

Abracos.

Your right Zoccer, good pole for Rubens, I still don't think he will win though. I think as Long as Coulthard does not have an engine or car problem he can win, if McLaren goes for their one stop it could be fairly simple. Would you believe Schumi way down there again. BUT if it does rain, the one thing I do give Schumacher respect for is his incredible driving ability on a wet surface, there is none better (not now Alesi is gone ) so watch out for him if the skies open !!

Back with my bets later!

As i say i don't bet on F1 that often

April 5 2003, 11:16 PM

purely down to you never know who will let who through to win in certain races when points for a team are at stake...as i say this is a track Schumacher excels at but as i haven't punted on it i don't mind who wins..the specatacle of it is enough for me.

I'm a bit suspicious

April 6 2003, 3:53 AM

of the Williams, I think they are running on heavy fuel loads and they may not pit for some time, can only wait and see but I am sure their positions are lying a little.

I have taken all these bets from betandwin.com this week.

Juan Pablo Montoya WIN RACE @ 15.00 1pt
David Coulthard WIN RACE @ 4.00 1 pt

Webber completes race YES @ 1.85 2 pts
Pizzonia completes race YES @ 2.00 2 pts
Verstappen completes race YES @ 2.00 2 pts

Coulthard to bt Rubens @ 1.80 2 pts
Schumacher to bt Rubens @ 1.70 2pts

Montoya to bt Ralph
Webber to bt Fisichella
Double @ 2.71 (1 pt)

two brasilians in the top 5

Rubens 4

Top 3 is still Kimi, Coulthard and Schumi

First four cars are so evenly matched this is a great race, and good signs for a great battle this season!!

SCUMACHER OUT

April 6 2003, 7:06 PM

could not control his car, thank god he is ok because another few meters and he woudl have flew into a CAT tractor , why they have a tractor sitting like that I don't know but he just missed it. So Coulthard in the lead and Kimi gone into the pits!!!

Schumachers first 'did not finish' since Germany in 2001

WOW

April 6 2003, 7:47 PM

Kimi makes a mistake and a JORDAN is leading a Gran Prix, wild

Think Fisichella may need to pit yet though??

Safety car will now come out as Webber just lost nearly every part off his car in a crash, he raced very well up to this point and has spun once before and regained control earlier, he is showing promise.

Looks like its all over and Jordan have won?? But not definate yet!

This is really bizarre

April 6 2003, 7:53 PM

now they are still deciding wether the race is stopped for good and Fisichellas car has burst into flames???

The rules state that if the race is red flagged then the result will be oin the standing of the drivers on a lap two laps prior to the flag which means Kimi may or may not be the winner???

This is the most bizarre race I have ever seen, god knows what will happen next??

(Login Jhim)

They still don't know

April 6 2003, 7:58 PM

Eddie Jordan is shouting up to the balcony as they still do not know wether Fisichella is first or second??

If they go by the rules it may be

1. Kimi
2. Fisichella
3. Alonso

Had Coulthard stayed out for another couple of laps he woudl be the winner

What a day???

MArk Webber

April 6 2003, 8:03 PM

is now classified as finishing the race even though he started all the problems, because the race result is based on position two laps before the red flag. I wonder how the bookies treat this one???

Webber is out bu classified as finishing in 7th
Alonso is out but on the pdium in third place

weird, there are only two drivers on the pod because ALonso is in hospital bay!

lets just be happy all are safe and ok.

A footnote

April 6 2003, 8:26 PM

There was talk that the future of the Brasilian Gran Prix is in question because of a lack of funding and also poor facilities. I am wondering now if we have seen the last race at Interlagos unless somthing dramatic happens.

The reason I am thinking this is if you look at a repeat of Alonso's crash, when he went into the barrier and came out again, all the tires in the barrier flew apart and went streaming across the track endangering more lives, this is not supposed to happen, the tires are supposed to act as a buffer but they are supposed to not roll out the way. There was a piece of tarpaulin holding them all in, this was pulled away by Alonso cars and all the tires were just loose and allowe to roll everywhere. I will be surprised if this is not called into question.

April 6 2003, 8:41 PM

the flooding on the bend where they all went off ..they think it was to do with the hospitality tents down in that area and that a drain of some sort was installed in that area to cope with toilets and the like and with the heavy rain it overflowed ..i reckon they will have a look into whether they think another Grand Prix should be held there ..safety is paramount and it certainly wasn't high on the agenda at this track.

A truly bizarre race

April 7 2003, 12:04 AM

M Schumacher to bt Raikkonen 1.75 LOST
Coulthard to bt Raikkonen 1.83 LOST
Heidfeld to bt Frentzen 1.80 LOST
Heidfeld to bt Villeneuve 1.85 LOST
Button to bt Villeneuve 1.91 LOST
R Schumacher to bt Montoya 2.00 WON
Trulli to bt Alonso 1.62 LOST

1 of 7 correct !

When looking at the results today one couldn't say knowledge had much to do with the bets coming in.

Alonso bt Trulli altough he crashed out, Räikkonen bt Coulthard but have had to make another pitstop a couple of laps later. Two bizarre losses i think.

The other bets were decided by 1 driver crashing out.

Normally one would have 50 % chance, but i seem to have a low strike rate in being lucky picking which driver will crash out.

A good idea for future races, especially if it's raining is to take some high odds and hope the better driver crashes out.

Hope to get better results at Imola.

What a Race ....

That was brilliant Great race. I stopped watching F1 last year about mid way through. It was boring but this year ... what truely great stuff. Swings and roundabouts. As for todays race it had almost everything ... a totally unpredictable race... pleanty of crashes (yea I do genuinely watch it to see how a car looks after hitting a concrete wall at 200mph ... how else would you have a bit of fun on a Sunday afternoon   ) and there was almost an Irish winner.

To be honest what this year I like F1 again. Its not totally boring. Theres crashes & contravercy etc. Its great fun and long may this continue .. the first F1 season I'm truely enjoying in a truely long time

Watching F1 every grand prix last 14 years, i have to say that this year is the most exciting! Unlucky Giancarlo Fisichella yesterday (and also David Coulthard due to pit stop)! I think that Fisichella worths be winner once at least. To many good races for him so far!
