Only one minimum bet for me which runs in the Grand National
Saturday 5th April 2003
1 Point Killusty (Grand National) The National is no easier to solve than in previous years, but the one with potential to be a great deal better than his current handicap mark in Killusty. He returned from a absence of over 2 years at Sandown to win without coming off the bridle. He is unbeaten over fences, is reported fit and well by his trainer, and most importantly in a race like this has a top jockey in Norman Williamson on board.

Good luck with Killusty
I hope you get better luck than you have had previously in the national
As previoulsy said it maybe time for the opposite for me in teh National with 6 from the previous 7 winners of the race , i may have used all my luck for a lifetime in the race lol
I have done Youllneverwalkalone for the obvious reasons so far at 10/1 and will be back tommorrow when i have looked at the race more so
at Cheltenham this year when he won at 12/1, it just worries me that Barry Geraghty who rode him superbly that day has got off him to ride Monty's Pass. Youlneverwalkalone is similar to Killusty in that he needs the run of the race as they will be held up and asked to improve (if still standing) on the 2nd circuit. An outsider I considered before plumping for Killusty was Supreme Glory who has a good record in the Nationals and has sneaked in here with a low weight
There maybe another bet to be had on the all weather, I didn't realise they had sneaked in a 2yo event lower down the card. If anything materialises will post it up in the morning
Carbury Cross ran in the Hennessy last November and this a race i always check out when looking at the National..last season it ran well but perhaps the handicapper had a grip on him so far this season ,hopefully the bad runs were to lower the h/cap mark...it has a decent racing weight although the top weights are a little classier this year than perhaps some before..i still tend to look between the 10'4 mark and 11'00 when assessing this race, to run just over 4 miles with 11 st plus is not an easy thing to do..just a wee snippet regards breeding no horse that was sired by 7 times top sire Strong Gale has been placed in the National or won it although Strong Gales are more geared towards speed ..one good sire i look for is Roselier who come into there own over these long distances..one thing about Carbury Cross is that it is better over a left handed track and that this season it has run 6 times and ran 3 round right handed tracks where it was P/U twice and that when running left handed it was in the Hennessy beaten 6 1/2 lengths and the next time at Haydock in the Red Square Voda Gold Cup chase and was ridden by a 3lb claimer which suggests to me that it was being prepped for Cheltenham..it was then pulled up behind Youllneverwalkalone..but i personally think this was the target all along and will take it along with Southern Star...I can see where you are coming from Mark regards the bad runs ,i just wonder if Jonjo was doing another Mini-Sensation as in the Welsh National..ran out the back as many times then pops in ..hopefully it will be the same tommorrow my other bet is Southern Star of Hen Knights basically the reason for this is i have backed it all season and will give it a go in the big one...i may have one for Hereford but will have a further look at the form book...good luck to everyone who bets on the pinstickers guide to the galaxy.
looking at the horses it looks like any from 20 could win it. Ive taken Iris Bleu, just fancy it, obviously great jockey in Tony Mccoy and a horse in form. Fell at 4th last year but experience may bode well for him this time around
A very nice profit at 16/1 on the nose and i hope some people took note of my stats and horses to cross off as if u did you were ON!!
7 from 8 for me now in the National
Yippeeeee!!
Any horse carrying 11 stone + just doesnt win the National!
i put a line through anything above 11 stone every year as i said above..it is bloody hard for a horse to hump that weight around 4 miles plus and only a really good horse can carry it off..i got a decent run for my money with Cadbury Cross and my youngest son put his finger on Amberleigh House in the paper this morning so his £1 e/w bet will buy extra sweets for him this week.
Pete yes you certainly got a good run from your horse!
And i am really pleased for your son getting 3rd and extra sweets makes me wish i was your son as my wife wont let me have any!
Killusty looked as though he was tired approaching Bechers and subsequently fell, one of the many I suspect that will not truly stay this trip.
Barry Geraghty certainly knows how to pick them, remember he got off Youlneverwalkalone to ride Monty's Pass. A shrewd choice and just about the best jockey around at the moment in big races
Mark and as usual i think u r spot on!
The Jockey is a brilliant rider and i think he rode a faultess race today and obviously made a good choice getting off the other one!
don't ride in the UK all the time alongside Ruby Walsh it would show some of these so called top jocks over here how to actually ride a race...if you are based in the South they automatically say they are the best..for me the Northen jocks could show them a thing or two..Tony Dobbin ,Jimmy Crowley and 2 young guys from Scotland Bruce Gibson and Wilson Renwick they could ride a race better than most of the jockeys down south.
Yes Scott well done, not at all disappointed as i love this race just for fun, the amount of people that bet and watch it! its good just to get a few people in the boozer just to watch it!
Mike !
I agree it is a great race to watch and even without the luck i seem to get on it i would still enjoy as is a real spectacle!
People at work dont bet but do once a year for the National!
Great fun
