TROTTERS - 6 hour rule explained.Opinions welcome

in theory, principle reason for this - gives me and anybody else chance to check/query/discuss validity of a bet before a huge row erupts.Hopefully, the 6 hours gives a bit of breathing space in the event of misunderstandings.Better this,I feel, than someone moaning that I've kicked out, after Kick Off, a bet placed 25 mins before Kick Off - a bet which, incidentally,I might not even have seen.
(Plus everybody has the same 'disadvantage')

But it's all based on an old rule of surveying - ALWAYS allow a contingency sum - just in case of........................anything !

However - this is not cast in concrete.Have your say

(if you must !!)

Its a good idea

April 17 2003, 6:41 PM

of course as you are checkinmg stuff so I understand it. But for example I couldn't make my pick until I got to work this morning and picked St Pauli but wasn't six hours before, I was in bed six hours before I think because of time difference. I don't mond but somedays you coudl actually make three or four picks in one day if South american games are being played and get to 10 faster. Maybe you could pick in advance say like put a provisional pick in the 5th bet string saying this will be my bet if my fourth wins???

Don't suppose it matters much, I just like whining about stuff

Hi Mulv,

Does this mean that my third pick is disqualified on the grounds that it was only posted 1.5 hours before kick off?

3rd bet... April 16 2003, 6:31 PM

Third Pick

Arsenal -0.5 vs Man Utd +0.5 @ 1.62 262.20pts (Betfair)

Best of luck to all,

Doogie

thanks for being so honest - but, yes, the bet will not count.Sorry that I hadn't noticed earlier.

In fairness to others, you might have gained an unfair advantage with team news over another player who had taken a different view of the same match.Apologies again.

Jhim - still mulling over what you said.

My opinion

April 17 2003, 8:26 PM

mulv and others,
i believe that the 6 hour rule is important, for the reasons mulv mentioned in the opening post. It should stay as it is,since i think that when somebody decides to place a bet in the competition will be quite sure about it, and he wont choose a game he will have to wait until last minute for news.
As far as checking the odds is concerned... if mulv doesn;t have a chance to check the odds before kick off at the specified bet, one could say that he could do it by looking at the various sites that keep track of all the odds. By personal experience the odds comparison sites have a lot of mistakes very often, and sometimes are not able to keep track of all possible changes.

Jhim,
although out of topic, thanx for your nice comment. Furthermore i would like to make a small comment on something you wrote. It is about placing 3 or 4 bets in one day. Since the competition goes on till 31st of MAY, it seems not so neccesary to place 3 bets in a day. What i mean is that by trying to get to No 10 bet as quickly as possible, you are only increasing the chance to loose.
The other thing is about the time difference. Some games start at normal (12:00pm - 21:00) times for some people but for some others dont. FOr example: the copa Libertadores games start at 02:00 - 05:00 am where i live. That means i will be in bed at that time.
Anyway, this is my opinion only. I find the 6 hour rule essential as it allows every player (and those who might want to follow some picks) to place a well thought bet which will not depend on last minute news.
Regards
Betix

of course your right, I don't mind sticking with 6 hour rule really, but sometimes with the time difference it means I need to do 18 hours before.

My bet no 2 placed today (17/4/03) was at 08.02 and the game kicked off at 14.00 (Brondby-Koge), 5 hrs 58 mins later.

I am honestly not trying to sound pedantic, do you require another bet no 2 or can I move onto bet no 3?

Cheers in advance

sorry it took so long to reply - been out all day, since early on.I accept you bet,in as much as 2 minutes would hardly grant you a distinct advantage,news-wise.

However, for everyone else, this is the last time I will relax this rule knowingly - otherwise it will be '5 minutes','I was only a half hour late posting' etc etc.

Still thinking about Jhim's question.Might relax if,suddenly, nearly everyone is on 1st or 2nd bet only.At the moment,a few are around 4th bet level.

Can I get a prize

April 18 2003, 8:18 PM

if I get 10 losers in a row, at the moment I am on 3

I bet it would be difficult to get ten losses in a row if you were actually trying???
