In England .....

April 21 2003, 8:48 AM

they normally have a preview show

Betting on this with the bookmakers is not advised because the overround is massive, if you do have to bet then choose Betfair, the overround will be less and hence the odds will be better.

one of the lamest nights of entertainment tv can provide. I havent heard any songs but may be worth looking at odds of russia, as TATU are singing for em, and if they get kinky, the votes could go their way ppppppppppppppp

Re: eurovision song contest

April 25 2003, 4:22 PM

Iīm a big eurovision fan, even though Iīve never bet on it.

Iīve only heard the Icelandic song, and that will probably be in the middle of the group as usual.

Few years ago the competition quit using few man judges in each country and started televoting. Because of that fact Russia will most probably win.

Tatu will sing the Russian song, but Tatu are 2 17 or 18 years lesbians. They usually perform on their underwears or less clothes
They are also very erotic on stage. They will probably get 90% votes from all males age 10-60.

But if we look at the history, Ireland and Sweden are likely to win it.

I looked at the odds at betfair AFTER I wrote this and Russia are most likely with odds 4,2, Spain is second with odds 8,6 and Iceland is third!!!!! odds 11.
Lay Iceland, thatīs easy moneyhttp://www.network54.com/Realm/footballfixedodds/spiny.gif

The tATu girls look good for Eurovision success

RUSH IN FOR RUSSIAN GLORY

By James Dart

It may still be almost two months until the Eurovision Song Contest takes place at the Skonto Olympic Hall in Latvia, but the news of a star performer makes for a very appetising ante-post bet.

Coral have been the first firm to post prices on the event, but already they have had to slash the odds on Russia to land the spoils.

Why? Well, lesbian pop combo tATu have been confirmed as the entrants for Russia.

The duo have courted controversy in this country since their arrival on the music scene, but their debut single 'All The Things She Said' has already proved to be the smash of the 2003 so far.

When Coral opened their market, the duo were rated as 6/1 shots to win the competition on May 24, but within hours that disappeared to leave them as 7/2 chances.

Our advice? Snap this up as soon as possible.

Well-known performers may not own the greatest of records in the Eurovision Song Contest (especially UK entrants), but tATu are arguably the hottest property in Europe right now and the public phone voting would surely guarantee Russia victory for the first time ever.

Eighteen-year-old Julia Volkova and Lena Katina will perform a song called 'Ne ver, ne bojsia', which translates as 'No faith, no belief' and they are confident of winning.

They recently told the Sun newspaper: "No one should be scared of us but we're going to win Eurovision.

"We wanted to do this because we are Russians body and soul. We want to blast everything that's gone before with our sexy act."

Their success was a massive surprise when they released debut single 'All The Things She Said', but it raced to the number one spot all over the continent, including the European Top 40 chart and the World Airplay Top 100.

It has lingered around the charts for two months and their risque antics have ensured their place in the tabloid newspapers on an almost-daily basis.

It all builds and adds to their popularity, helping them take the single to number one in the UK, Ireland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, amongst others.

Second release 'Not Gonna Get Us' is just hitting airplay around Europe at the moment and it's likely to be dwelling at the top of charts all around the continent right up until May 24, keeping them in the public consciousness for the big day.

Have a small covering wager at 7/2 on the Russians finishing second or third, just in case the political voting causes a major shock, but hurry whatever you do, as the prices are sure to disappear very quickly.

WHO SAYS EUROVISION ISN't ENTERTAINING?

April 25 2003, 9:43 PM

you can call it a lot of things and i don't have my thesaurus handy right now to list all adjectives you could slag it off with....but not entertaining please our TEL on the beebs show is worth staying up for his own!
anyway i had not realised the teenage lesbo were on it this year but even at 3.5 they represent a absolute solid bet. why??? well are probably the only ones performing anyone outside their own country has heard of
they can actually sing and any country with even a half decent song will get votes off there buddies/former occupiers and dicators. the voting by some countrys is SO preditcable you would drop dead if iceland didn,t give norway 12 points EVERY SINGLE BLOODY YEAR SINCE THE THING STARTED!!!!! regardless of the fact they had a tramp banging a dustbin lid for their entry. how many former iron curtain countrys are in this year.....PLENTY. UKRAINE vote garanteed to give russia 12 for example
without upseting anyone from these countrys by my poor historical and political knowledge but....POLAND LATIVA ESTONIA SLOVENIA( or am i confusing SLOVAKIA?) ROMANIA and lets not forget there rifle dropping PALS of the mo FRANCE!
and if that dosen,t persuade you then let me just say these few words ATTARCTIVE TEEN LESBIANS WITH SKIMPY SKOOL UNIFORM TYPE CLOTHES know what i mean GUYS!!!! forget the over round.....THEY CANNOT LOSE!!!

TATU still look like the winners to me

May 13 2003, 10:01 PM

even if their orginal boast of "we will definatly win " has changed to " we don,t care if we win but we plan on getting hitched if we do" mmmmmm

anyway i have over 60 quid on them now so it,s too late to start looking over their shoulders

Coral have made spain the favs and Tatu are now 6.5
but whats this open a new account and get your 10 quid deposit matched ....a ten pound stake would equal odds of
13 now thats got to be tempting NO?

this advert is currently running at www.doteurovision.com

i have not seen my 10 free pounds yet so i have e-mailed them to what the deal is with it. will report back......of course thats if anyone is still intrested in this thread. i know it,s not footie but it,s the best thing to bet on in the close season...for me at least

Coral were very nice about it too (TAKE NOTE LADBROKES WHO HAD TO BE PESTERED for their free cash offer)
so open a new account deposit 10 get your free 10 quid and stick it on Russia for potential pay day of 130. good value indeed i think.

Pls stop betting on Russia!!!

May 23 2003, 3:52 PM

For God's sake...in this contest a bookie sfavorite has NEVER won!
Tatu are known, they are lesbians, male voters might give them pts also coming from Russia menas a lot of political votes.
HOWEVER their song is not of the Eurovision type and it is in Russian which is a big minus imo.
I think at odds 7-8 as they started you should have bet some money but at odds 3-5 it is getting ridiculous.
I prefer to bet on 2-3 countries each season with odds 15-50 and try my luck. Last season I was a winner with Latvia at 25/1 (posted in this forum, my other bet Cyprus at 33/1 came in 5th) but that was only the 2nd time in 6 comps.

Wait for tonight's show...I never make any bets before that as today the contestants will appear on stage and perform exactly the way they will do tomorrow in front of a live crowd too. It will be en exact duplicate of tomorrow' show. This is when we finally know how each song is performed ON STAGE and what clothes the singers wear et al.
Judging politics, songs and Eurovision mentality I think Latvia have a decent chance to win it again, they have strong song, good appearance and a song that can be preformed very good on stage. If my info is good after tonight's performance I will try them at odds 10+.
Notice that on several online polls Russia began as no1 with vast pts difference from other countries but as we get nearer the night they fall and fall as more people get invloved in the votes and more people listen ALL the songs.
Also Cyprus @150/1 is a crazy price. 1 Euro never hurt anyone if it is going to pay back 150 and Cyprus has traditionally gone well. I would even better consider them in an each way or place bet as I think they have limited chances to win it but they should be in top10 or higher.

This year I don't have a good feeling for any country and my only bet will be a 2/10 on Latvia @10 after I get my info from tonight's dress rehearsal. If I have any info on surprise appearances I will be back.

iceland maybe the ones to upset the apple cart

May 23 2003, 5:23 PM

there odds are coming in fast now the big night is almost on us ....i Still say Russia....no bookies fav has ever won....well thats sounds like a record waiting to be broken...political voting agaisnt russia....they were just sqeaked into second in 2000.

ladbrokes are still offering 12-1 on iceland (compared to most bookies offering 5). with all the rumours of the backing singer taking one thems place ect ect...i,m going to have to hedge my bets a little and place a covering wager on iceland........but i still think russia are the ones to beat.

Russia

May 23 2003, 5:51 PM

didn't finish testing yesterday but they HAVE to perform tonight. Tonight's show is a duplicate so that if for example a singer has an accident or sth they will show tonight's performance taped!
So every country including Russia will have to show their hidden cards. And that is your advantage over the bookmakers if you have good info from trustworthy people who will be watching tonight's show. Some comments you may find on the net also after the show but these depend on individual liking so I prefer to hear from a friend of mine who travelled to watch the ceremony and has done the same job for me twice before wuite succesfully (last season Latvia pick was begging to be taken at 33/1 once you've been informed of their on stage show.)

May 24 2003, 2:47 AM

hello from australia. sorry i have no info from down under, but you european folk are doing good analysis.
all i have done is listened to the songs my favourite is austria's song only cos its a catchy tune, but i know its probably got no hope, its more of a children's song isn't it.
which type of song do you think will perform better, a song like germany's or spain or even turkey's.
keep posting ur thoughts.
has that rehearsal been on yet, what was the final analysis from that?
cheers!!

Post dress rehearsal comments

May 24 2003, 11:07 AM

According to the press agency Wenn and Baltic News Service Volkova was taken to one of the hospitals in Riga and no further comments about her situation is known. It was announced earlier that she had problems serious damage to her vocal chords.

People witnessed an helicopter taking off the Skonto complex. Throat problems were probably the cause of the weak performance in the first dress rehearsal.

The people close to the band still believe that she can still perform on Saturday evening.

Just in case the band has hired a third member, a 17-year old girl Katja Netšajeva from Tallinn, Estonia, so that the problems with her voice wouldn't destroy Russian act.

Still a lot of questionmarks about Russia but I think no matter what they do on stage tonight their image has been severely damaged with all this playing around. Most countries have coverage of the events and this might cause problems to voters who might dismiss tham altogether after their acting. A lot of boos so far for no1 favorite and honestly I think a lot of people are sick of that.
Good on stage performance by Turkey, Romania, Ukraine, Latvia and Slovenia.

My choice is diifcult this season as many countries have paid more attention to Eurovision contest specifics. I have 3 good choices
Turkey 25/1: Very good choreography, strong song, a good surprise act and perfect singing from Sertab. Their minus is they come from southern Europe and miss en block votes through politics (or friendly relations, better,  since it is not exactly politics when it comes to televoting).

Romania: Like their video clip they know what you need to win Eurovision Song Contest. Good on stage performance and a late draw number (no24). I think Turkey has better song.

Latvia 9/1: I had them as favs from the song department. Being home "team" they get better treatment on stage from lights et al and have good performance. Late draw number (no21) and a lot of angry ex-USSR voters will give them pts instead of Russia (plus Scandinavian countries).

After Russia's problems and Spain  making a lot of singing mistakes I think big favs might have to face disappointment again. Iceland have a good song but compared to many other countries who tried sth different, their on stage performance is not so exciting and they have a low starting number.

Now let's wait for the show!

PS. Eurovision rules
1. Friendly relations.
2. On stage performance of the song (clever acts, dancing, stripping et al)
3. Good song, good singing on the night is essential. Innovative sings are awarded at times but too innovative get hammered.
4. Late draw no (2nd group 14-26 pref 20+) Countries singing after the break tend to get better scores if they have a good song as they leave a good last impression and also having heard other songs if you see a good act near the end you are more probable to vote that one instead of sth you heard earlier.
5. Home country (sympathy votes esp if they have a good song)

well if what your friend says is true

May 24 2003, 11:50 AM

then Romania have got be worth a little EW cash at 50-1
you can get this price and 12-1 on latvia at sporting odds
don,t know what Tatu are messing around at but i think it might be a stunt....and i agree if it is it may very well back fire on them (and my 70 quids worth of bets on them )
i just don,y know about latvia....sure they will have great support but people may tend to say they had the glory last time it,s someone else s turn....don,t know but 12-1 seems a reasonable price...i think i will deposit 10 units with Sportingbet.com and take 5 on latvia as a loss cover and 2.50 EW on romania at 50-1

that takes my bets for tonight to
Russia 70 units @ around 6.5
iceland 10units @ 12.00
latvia 5units @ 13.00
romania 2.5 EW @51.00

hope i have the winner in there somewhere
good luck to you all

Eurovision

May 24 2003, 4:07 PM

Hi,

Everyone knows that this competition normally has nothing to do with the music, Greece and Cyprus always give each other maximum, for example. Does anyone know if all countries votes are now deceided by their publics?

I think Tatu will win it, solely because they are a name that everyone has heard of, even if the song is absolute shite.

Best of luck to all,

Doogie

Well

May 24 2003, 6:38 PM

bad news for tATu backers as EBU has had it with them breaking almost every rule in the book. The chances of them getting disqualified are slim but still existant but there is much bigger chance reaching certainty for some sites that only Yelena will sing tonight as the song SHOULD be performed exactly like last night's dress rehearsal (I told you every country would have to show their hidden cards).
I think tATu will get their scores and finish high but won't win as the fans of the contest don't like this playing around. Remember of course that their big show might never come alive on stage if only Yelena sings in the end...

About the rest I must say after telephone call with my friend (who did some asking around with people of different nationalities in Riga) Turkey, Slovenia and Latvia seem to be songs that had good votes all around and at odds of 25/1 19/1 and 9/1 can be backed. Russia expected to make top10 if they get there but not higher.
Romania is good for a place or each way bet than a win bet while Iceland seems to be lacking a lot in stage performance and despite being a good song it is lost on the night. Spain is the one favorite that seems to be afloat but that only if she manages to get it together on the night as every day this week she has lost her tune in some part of the song and it was ugly.

And to answer to Doogie, politics was a big part of the competition as the points were decided by juries and they could not represent european people, but since televoting noone can say that results are fixed or politics play any part. It is of course reasonable that a lot of Greeks will vote for Cyprus and vice versa but this is sympathy votes and not politics since noone forces Greeks to give Cyprus 12pts. No country will ever win just by accumulating some scores from friendly countries because there are 26 giving pts and a strong song with strong performance will get pts from all countries and not just 5-6. Latvia winning last season had little to do with politics. It was an enjoyable song with a great choreography and they got 12 from many countries that come from South Europe and have nothing to do with the Baltics. Lacking these pts they would never have won even though they got "political votes" as other songs would get votes all over. I think the same song would have won last season even if it represented Netherlands for example.

May 25 2003, 12:38 PM

I had a 4/10 bet on Russia @7.50 (early early on)
and since Friday night
a 2/10 bet on Latvia @10.00
and a 1/10 bet on Turkey @26.00
So the night was a winning one and info proved ok. Latvia was a disaster and I sincerely think they had gotten a message out that they don't want to win again and they weren't even voted by many friendly countries.

Funny thing, last year Latvia won over Malta and the UK, this season these three ended 24th, 25th and 26th out of 26 countries!!!

clear precise info throughout the past few days, and his info was pretty precise. whoever that friend of yours is he needs a pat on the back.
i got turkey @15.00
and took them top 3 @4.75.
how bad was uk entry i didn't like that even 2 weeks ago. thought portugal and especially spain would do way better. tatu's song was a different tune to many others, and including they are already famous, no surprise they finished top 3.
i knew the austrian entry wasn't a total failure, there was a message there somewhere, or was it just sympathy votes.
please someone tell me what belgium's song was all about, was there a hidden language hidden there somewhere?
well done turkey, great song good routine, strong voice, though i thought they showed more gusto when they sang the song after they had won, maybe it wouldn't have been so close if that was their original, can't remember belly dancing in their first attempt.

Belgium song

May 25 2003, 4:16 PM

lyrics meant nothing. It was made up words just trying to express the feeling and wanted to show music is a universal language. It touched a lot of sentimental hearts and was something new that got people's attention. I had them in my initial list but I didn't think they would get THAT much attention
All's well that ends well...
See you in Turkey next season with 2 nights of Eurovision, semifinal and final!
