Congrats to exiledmanc on being the first to achieve this level - at the first time of asking as well. You might find this a slightly lonely page for a little while.Once again - well done !

And commiserations to Daneck, whose 8th bet went down, unfortunately. That's the hard thing about this game - all you good work can end up as nothing.Still, fully expect you to bounce back,D

May 21 2003, 5:27 PM

Great comment Jhim ! "Slowly, slowly, catch the monkey".

It looks like mine and zlands 9th pick fall short of this 10% mark (although I thought this was for made up asians). We'll have to let Mulv decide.

But there is no way on earth that I could match Betix's achievement. Tremendous.

ps GL for Celtic tonight and also a hope the 'real hoops' win the more important game on Sunday

If thats the case

May 21 2003, 6:28 PM

then hoops bet doesn't count either?

So you woudl have to be 1.10 or above?

I didn't read that part.

this 10% 'rule' ain't an actual rule

May 21 2003, 8:57 PM

If you recall it was a proposal, particularly in the light of asian bets.So - I am prepared to alloe Zland and Hoops bet TO STAND and will let them advance.

BUT - the proposal ref 10% bank increase was put forward in an attempt to discourage NEGATIVE betting and was only ever a proposal.OK - 1.05 is hardly much better. But it does increase the bank at least if the bet wins. And if loads of players kept hitting 10 on the Trot 5% increases might prejudice your qualifying to further round(s).But,qualifiers are proving to be a bit thin on the ground.Just to clarify again - I intervened in the case of Sorin's bet 'cos a 'winning' bet could have actually DECREASED his bank, which I don't think anyone would try to achieve in the real world (Jeez ! Larssen just scored !).To his credit,Sorin took this in very good faith.

Hope this is all clear - to reiterate,I don't like less than 10% as an increase.I won't stop it,but will,at this point in time, discourage it.But I will stop 'negative' bets (same as I banned originally the 'arbitrage' bets)

(Back to the match)

Re: TROTTERS - 9th (NINTH) BETS ONLY

May 21 2003, 10:54 PM

Cheers Mulv, for a fair descision ! To make up for it I'll try to find a 5.01 instead of a 1.05 for my 10th pick. I don't think I'm a threat to the experts though

Zland, I'll see you in the thread 10th thread tomorrow, because I'm off to Cardiff (to cheer on the mighty hoops) on Saturday / Sunday so I won't be around much.

Cheers & good luck to all (esp. Kevin Gallen......)

LOST AT THE NINTH!!!

May 23 2003, 4:41 AM

Well, i guess that was it for me guys. I had 8 consecutive bets, all with odds above 2.00. I took the ninth after a very nice info on missing players from Sporting Cristal. I was listening the game live on the radio and i can tell you one thing. Either it was a universe conspiracy for me not to get through to the QF, or i ran out of luck. Cienciano missed 16 clear ,classic, no-way to miss chances with Ernesto Zapata, their striker while the same time all Sporting Cristal was doing was to defend the Home players waves of attack. Cienciano took the lead in 3' nad got equalised at injury time of first half (1st bad sign). In the second half it was pretty much the same situation. Cienciano was attacking in waves again and Delgado (Cristal's goalkeeper) made an amazing show, blocking man many dangerous shots. Ernesto Zapata kept missing (more like messing). After a corner of Cristal, Ascammati a defender od Cienciano was trying to clear the ball, lost it to Junior who scored the 1-2. After that it was all Cienciano again and again Zapata missing what other players dont miss in a whole season. You should have been listening to that Peruvian commentator whenever Zapata was missing one. "Zapataaaaaaa gggggoooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiii"
Cienciano was awarded a penalty in 93' equalised but there was not enough time left to score the winner, and not enough time for me to get to the 10th eventually.
You maybe thinking why i am writting all that staff here. Well, it is just that i got so far with a bank of 69000units out of a starting 100. That game would have sky-rocketed my bank to 152000, waiting for the last match to be named a trotter. and when you get so far and loose just a couple of steps before the end it hurts. You wont believe it, but i was so sad last night not for loosing real money on that game (it was yet another bet) but for loosing my streak on this competition.
Good thing is that it helped me understand one thing. You dont have to bet everyday on every game that lies in front of you. Patience is a virtue in betting and always remember that. It took me a month to get 8 bets but it was worth it. I will really consider starting a Ten on the Trot myself in real life this time, and when i get enough i will stop it. After all you cannot find a book which would take more than 10000euros on a single bet, or if you could i dont think one would place them all on one bet.
Finally i wan to thank mulv for starting this competition as it has been very useful.
I hope i was not dramatic in any way, but i wish you all good luck in the competition and in real hard betting life of course.

Regards
Betix

Well done Betis

May 23 2003, 5:43 AM

be very proud, that was a fantastic collection of bets at great odds and you turned 100 pts into a point mountain

I also like to thank Muulv cause its fun, if I lose tomorrow I probably won't enter now as too late but its been fun and I think at the new forum we need to have a section dedicated to competitions and this has to have its own part in it

And hey Betix, why not give it one more blast using different games around the world to get the ten in before the end

been watching your progress(didn't want to say anything beforehand, felt like I'd put the mochas on Beaks when i wished him well before PSV stuffed him) that was some run you had going, carrying that massive bank,69000, what a number to crash on.

you selected wisely and backed bravely, will be watching for your write ups in the future.

I echo Jhim and Mancs comments and i think you are right to feel they way you do as you had set this competition alight and i felt quite pitiful with my 1800 points and there was you on 69000.
I for one will also look forward to seeing what you have to say as i felt what you had done was amazing and someone very much to follwo for us all and you so obviously know your football.

I have to admit if i were you i would of gone for a heavy odds on shot as you were guaranteed a final place and i think alot of us could of done 20 bets in a row and still not got to you

It would make great reading if you started your own 10 on the trot in this forum at your own speed with no time restraints!
I reckon alot would back your tips and let the money roll and i probably would also as i was well impressed

Thanks
Scott

just to say I like your style - the real point in this competition is to show us all just how bloody hard it is to get ten tips on the trot.So far only 3 have made it.

If you look on the '10th bet' thread you'll see that I am probably looking at having to extend the deadline in order to get 8 Q Finalists. So there is still time and a place up for grabs !

well done - those bets were very highly priced for this sort of competition.

(don't be so f***ing greedy next time )

Thanks my FRIENDS

May 25 2003, 3:00 AM

Well,
it seems that i got a bit dramatic after all...
Jhim:
Thanx for your kind words. I was proud of my bank (how selfish hah). That is why i was so sad for loosing it so unfairly. I even downloaded Shots of the game and Cienciano really missed what other teams would never miss in a season. Remember, a mountain can always be higher

Exiledmanc:
Thank you too for your comments. My bets were chosen strictly following recent form, stats (i love stats) home away records, relations of players amongst them and with the coach, and motivation. At my first steps of betting i was going with low stakes as 10$ for example. From a point forward i decided that you cannot come to real profit with 10$ per bet, and multiplied my stakes high enough (never reveal your betting profile). So i had to back my picks bravely. Success lies in value of odds when betting. That is my opinion of course.

Scott:
Thanking you too would be common anymore (i just did ). To be honest i for a moment thought to take a "sure bet" low odds (rangers for example). But then i would be controversial with my way of betting. 8 bets all odds of 2.00 and above and suddenly a bet @1,20. It didn't feel right. So when i got hand of that certain news that Sporting Cristal was missing so many players idecided that this was the bet. As for my own post (good idea by the way) i am thinking of doing it come to the start of the new season as 80% of all the leagues are close to an end.

Last but not least
mulv:
it is very hard indeed to hit ten on the trot, especially if you are following the so called favs. Low odds do not deserve to be backed. I personally would only back a low odd of 1.50 for example if only my estimation of that game would require an odd of 1.20. So i would still have some value in my bet.
Furthermore i really thought to start over again but since you were not sure about the "Overtime" i decided not too. But on a second thought i will as i am almost sure you will give the extension. .

Regards
Betix
