1.30 York

It looks a very tricky sprint to unravel with any number holding chances, however Brave Burt should go well after running well from a poor draw at Epsom last time. That run where he was in the firing line until near the finish should put him spot on for this.

His draw in stall 7 looks fine and if any rain should between now and post time it would be in his favour. Available at generous double figure odds on Betfair a 3 point stake is the recommendation

4.10 York

Knavesmire Omen is a qualifier under the Mark Johnston system, and his chance looks a solid one. He ran a blinder last week in the Chester Cup, and was only overtaken close to home.

This is probably a minimum for him, but any rain that falls will help his chance although he does act on this ground. The fact that he has fitness and good form on his side should see him go very close especially that Kevin Darley takes the ride again, he has a good record on this horse. A 2 point stake is the recommendation.

Yippie horsies :) ...

May 14 2003, 4:58 AM

Brighton 3.55

I must admit I have this thing about crap horses. I seem to back quite a few of em For those of us that like a big price well there one that I quite fancy. Its Aveiro. This nag has won here before & at this distance. The trainer has quite a good strike rate at this course 50%. What does attract me is the price. The racing post has a projected 16/1 … this I can’t believe so I’ll back this nag Each Way

Remember horsies for fun ... now run like the wind my four legged friends

Unfortuantely .....

Brave Burt is a non runner on account of the fast ground.

I'm sure that he will win somewhere soon

We are left with just Knavesmire Omen who is available at around 6'1 this morning and ranks a 2 point stake

Mark, was Matty Tun in your list? Thought you may have picked that one.

I have had Brave Burt a couple of times and and always seems to win at a decent price

Matty Tun was on my list .....

May 14 2003, 8:54 PM

but after he was withdrawn at Beverley on Saturday I removed him

Funny with a bad draw at Beverley he is withdrawn with a vets' certificate and then is turned out 4 days later to win a valuable York handicap

Matty Tun

Mark, I just don't understand why a horse is removed from your watch list simply because it was withdrawn from a particular race. Does that invalidate its ability or potential? I think not! 16/1 says so. Ouch!!!

Point taken ........

May 15 2003, 8:03 AM

but when a horse is withdrawn because of a vets certificate it does normally indicate some sort of problem and they are normally removed in such circumstances (although still noted for future engagements). If Matty Tun had been left on the list then there would still have been a decision to be made between him and Brave Burt, and I would definitely have chosen the latter. The fact that he was also running from 4lbs out of the handicap would have been another negative.
