Rangers or Celtic- show me the Champion!

Well, Jhim, this time, Scottish fairness is going to be on tough test, both teams will do anything to score a goal more then their oponents.
In last two rounds they both made exactly what they needed to take first place, but now, theyll play on the same day, same hour...
Unpredictable, who will score the last and win the title (perhaps in 90th+ minute)...

Your opinions?

Impossible to tell

May 19 2003, 10:53 PM

I could come on here and say that Rangers are my choice because they play at home and we play away to Kilmarnock who hate the fact we always stuff them and they'd love to pull the wool over our eyes. In recent years they have had a strong connection with players as have Dunfermline and to be perfectly honest I'd rather it was Dundee and Hearts that were involved this week for various reasons.

But nobody expected Celtic to come off a UEFA tie and humble Rangers a couple weeks ago

So anything can happen, whoever scores better and concedes less on the day will win.

To be honest it will be how Dunfermline and Kilmarnock treat their games that will decide the title, Celtic and Rangers are both capabale of hammering both.

Its in the lap of the gods, but for me the cards are stacked in Rangers favour. Celtic cannot rest and play away at the weekend, Rangers have a week to rest and an opportunity to win the title at home so for me Celtic are the outsiders in this battle

you are right the one with most goals wins, if they had the same amount of goals then their woudl be a play off decider match!

A lot of people in Scotland are saying 'It will never go to a play-off' .......

Over the last few years Rangers and Celtic have beaten their respected opponents relatively easy - ok there has been a few tight games but on the whole it's been taking sweeties from babies !

Rangers to beat Dunfermline 3 or 4 nil isn't out of the quesion and Celic to beat Killie 4-1 or 5-1 looks on the cards as well.

This is going to be a fantastic weekend - still don't know what game the BBC are showing but supposedly its going to be the Rangers game with Sentana Sports showing he Celtic.

If Rangers score first pressure is on Celtic and vice-versa !!! - Players could easily let this get to them if one team is 2-0 up and the other game is 0-0 - the crowd and tranny radios are gonna play a major part.

both teams will win i have no doubts about that

May 20 2003, 11:04 AM

who will score the most goals..well that is in the lap of the gods and to be honest is a lottery ..absolutely anything could happen goals wise..i have to say it wouldn't be a total suprise if both had same goals at the end of both games..trannies will be on the go and a lot of nailbiting going on..and you know what will happen with both teams expected to put in a barrowload ..it will end up low scoring games..great stuff for the neutral but not for my bloody heart..a wee matter of the Uefa Cup 1st though..would you believe Jhim that of all the folk who got tickets for Seville quite a few managed to land in the washing machine through the excitement of getting a ticket and showing it to friends and forgetting to take them out before the jeans were washed..mine would have been in a vault ..and guess what Rod Stewart managed to get a ticket..lets just say a few of my mates who are away but who couldn't get a ticket and go to games all season long are not best pleased at the celebs who have tickets.

Goal difference as a tie break rule

May 20 2003, 6:34 PM

This is actually the best example why this goal difference tie break rule is a big pile of shit!
How can one decide a league champion from how many goals he has scored or conceded in the entire season? This has little to do with how good a team is.
I think the 1st rule should be games between the teams tied which is much more fair. Actually in a league like the Scottish one with Rangers and Celtic beating the shit out of every one it would only be fair for the champion (in the event of a tie in pts) to be the team that had best results in the 4 games between them, right??

With both teams tied at 97 I would say that the fact that Celtic have 2-1-1 vs the Rangers makes them champions more than it would if Rangers beat Dunfermline 4-0 while Celtic beat Killie just...3-0!

Anyway I get this mad every season with Germany, England et al and this idiotic tie break rule. To tell you the truth perhaps the better rule is in Italy where there is a play off game in neutral field in the event of a tie for a place that decides the title or European representation.

But goal difference is the shittiest rule of them all...

I reckon we will find

May 20 2003, 7:00 PM

that out on Sunday..nothing wrong with goal difference in my opinion..it has went on for years why change now..it helped Celtic out when beating St Mirren a few years back..better than Rangers indeed...young whippersnapper.
