My recent attempt to teach Steampunk and Accessories at the local Scifi/Fantasy ConDor convention was a success, and I got lots of applause. My membership to the convention was comp'd so I didn't have to pay. I had only planned on being there just on Sat but I was talked into being in the Masquerade (costume contest) and then talked into returning on Sunday so more people could see my costume.
This wasn't a costume convention but a meeting of Scifi/fantasy fans, and they discuss all their favorites (and argue alot). But there were a few Clingons, LOTR characters, and some other weird things. There were 8 of us altogether wearing Steampunk, and we were the stars of the convention.
In the Masquerade, my costume that day won Honorable Mention. Three other Steampunks went together as a team, with lots of gadgets, and they of course won Best in Show. But we had so much fun, we didn't want to leave.
I was wearing half of my Victorian bustle gown on Sat since they had me on a Victorian Costuming panel, so I felt I had to look more Victorian that day. But I wore it my way the next day, and no more top hat. It's too hot and messes up my hair.
**And I just got notified that I will also be able to teach my class at Costume College in Aug, and have two friends joining me to do it. Yay! I'll get part of my membership comp'd for that too.
Oh, peektures, here's a link to my album, which are mostly of my costume.
