Right now the way the team points are being allocated is simply the sum of both individual drivers points. This puts teams with drivers in the lower classes at a significant disadvantage because of the per-class point scheme. I was thinking of creating a different points system for the teams but I'm not sure quite how to implement it.
I had thought of giving out fixed points, regardless of class, for each driver's position within his class. For example if the point scheme were like F1 (10,6,4,3,2,1) and a team's drivers finished 1st in their respective classes, the team would get 20 points. But the problem with this scheme is if both drivers are in the same class the most they could ever accumulate is 16 points.
I'm also wondering what to do about teams with only a single driver. Double the points? What incentive would that give a really fast driver to find a (potentially slower) teammate? Why not stay single and just double your points!? I was thinking rather than doubling, multiplying by 1.75 or something...
In any case, I expect the method of allocating points to teams will eventually change (sooner rather than later) and will be effective retroactively (so don't get too attached to your team points )
