Don't mean to ignore you, but I haven't any ideas. Recently after I had updated my graphics drivers (ATI Radeon All in Wonder), I could no longer recalibrate my graphics as it would always crash. What I ended up having to do is reinstalling the game from scratch. If you decide to do this as well, don't forget to move aside your gpsaves directory before blowing away the original installation otherwise all your hotlaps, setups, etc will be lost.
Sorry I can't provide any better suggestions...
