I have just built a modified 22re engine.Non turbo and Im just about ready to program the ecu.I was wondering if anyone has one of these units on this toyota engine and what they can tell me about any problems or helpful sugestions? Im running keith black 9-7-1 pistons and a crane cam @ .430 int lift and .444 exh. lift 1800 - 5200 rpm range.A big bore throtlebody with the filter mounted at the throtlebody mouth. For injectors bosch 300 cc, the valves are stock.Ive ported the head as the throtle body work. The head has been opened at both ends on exhaust and intake ports, sligthly beveled and runners have been just sligthly cleaned through out with the bottom ramps left intack.I left the area around the guides and valves alone at this point due to the fact Im only trying to make air entry a bit smoother transaction along with throtle response.I also have swirled the intakes and polished the exhuast ports in same as above areas.Match ported all gasket contact points and including the mouth of thorley tri-y header. For it wasnt cleaned or opened at this point as should be done for what you buy a header for.Only the flange was surface ground by thorley. Then all gaskets were hand cut to match all ports through out intake and exhuast.Black magic electric fan installed and I fabricated the power steering pump to allow single pulley use and so now only four pulleys to the seven that came from toyota.I built my own free flow exhuastsystem with a 21/2" pipe at the collector only then with a smooth transtition into 21/4" which sweeps up to body floor under heat sheilds to freeflow cat then through between body and frame with a 2" body lift to be able to accomplish this task. And into a stainless supertrapp tuneable muffler on drivers side behind the extracab.Short but very effective as I ran this system on my last 22re engine with stock efi and ignition system. It has out performed all others Ive tryed and sounds the best also. The engine is fully balanced including the centerforce clutch and flywheel.Which are dual friction and heavy flywheel.I also made my own solid engine mounts and polyurathane trans mounts. All new rockers installed to break in with the new cam and tripe oiling hole rocker shafts installed along with an adjustable cam gear and steel backed chain guides. For radiator Im running a ford nascar universal all aluminum griffin from summitracing and omitted the 3rd radiator hose.My thoughts for my engine compartment are simple, like sds and less is better and without doubt on a 4wheeler for you dont need headaches anywhere but you really dont want any way the hell out in bum suck arizona deserts.I spent two nights and three days in febuary in the bradshaw mtns at 5000 feet in snow. That was to be a one day outing and lucky for us we had been helicopterd out the third day as we were starting to get weak from lack of food and warmth.A trip that will never be forgotten as it will never be repeated! And so inspired this build up of my 85 toyota SR-5 extracab into its 1st phase of 3.This one being by far the worst with three years now and counting and over 10,000 hours of all my work and craftsmenship into whats now called Rockrig with a hotrod touch throughout from its very nice interior to its three color scallop paint scheme.A energy master polyurathane suspension kit was added to the performance 2" body lift and 2" heavy duty shackles and performance es-9000 shocks.Upgrade front vented rotors and calipers and next the rear disk brake setup I plan to build using accra integra rear calibers and wilwood solid rotors with wilwoods master tandum and porportioning valve. The calibers have built in e-brakes and are small in size making them a perfect match for my truck build up.I have another 85 transfer case which will be added later for dual setup and custom drivelines with spicer u-joints.Then will add 31/2" ez-ride springs and my hi-steer setup. And I plan to add chrome molly axles front and rear with arb air locker in rear and detriot tru trac front.Along with half doors and a custom tube bed Ive designed that will kick the pants off whats out there to date. With great styling as the dual side tubes will bend out around the rear wheels to form a nice looking and strong bed frame as the dual tube rollbar will double as airtank for my gas powerd air compressor on board with twin cylinder pump.A diamond plate floor and brushed aluminum side walls and a shorty tailgate slightly angled forward as well 14" shorter overal from rear bumper to new rear bumper and other added goodys. The interior hosts an aray of custom goods. From the all auto meter instramentation in ultralite series built into a aluminum panel to match the finnish of gauges, and the grant wheel Ive customized with a beautiful black leather had cut and sewen wheel cover. The wheel is finnished to match the rest! with black oxide allenheads wheel and horn cap.I made the custom short shifters and cut the shift nobs from a B&M tee shifter and another from a local auto parts house thats no longer as it was.Sound is coverd by a alpine 9813 MP-3 cd deck with infinity kappa tweeters and blaupunkt 4" procomps in front and rear. Two 5.2 infinity kappas, two 6.5 cerwin vega vegas and 10" JBL sub with dual voice coils and two amps totaling 525 watts for power and the deck power.A custom inclosure which I also built. Two beard super comp seats with cloth upgrades grace the interior and sit on sliders I fabed from the stock units. With aluminum work I added through out the cab as in door cranks, and lock nobs and latches for all including stereo deck face plate. Its a must see to fully appreciate the work done.Well Ive typed enough for now.If any inquires about the truck or work performed.E-Mail me and I will gladly get back to you.OK Randy garrity Toy4therock@Yahoo.com
