My stock Ford wiring harness is in terrible shape, so Im preparing another one for the car.
It is an SDS EM-4 system that plugs into the stock wiring harness, and its a 4 cyl. 2.3 turbo motor with a stock Mustang SVO wiring harness that is a disaster waiting to happen!!
So I have another complete harness from a 1988 T-Bird TurboCoupe that I want to swap in place of the SVO harness.
But I am going to unwrap it all and eliminate all the wires and plug-in's that I do not need. Stuff like the EEC connection and control for the automatic trans, the programed ride control, high/low boost switch, AC connection, and all other fancy stuff.
My question is, which connections are the ones that I need to keep just to run the engine??
I know I need the plug in for the distributor (TFI module), the plug in for the coil, and a plug in for the air temp sensor and water temp sensor.
But does the SDS EM-4 need the O2 sensor?? I dont think it does since its all pre-programmed anyways and does not run in closed loop mode.
Also, what about Throttle Position Sensor?? when I tried to check the setting on the TPS sensor, I got no readout at all, so I used a different meter, and still the same thing...which lead me to think that the SDS is not using this as a source of information to run itself.
If so, then I can eliminate that plug in too, correct??
So if Im right, then the only plug in's I really need are: Distributor, air and water temp sensors, coil plug in, and the injector harness. Of course all the grounds and fusable links that are in the harness will stay in place.
I appriciate any input you guys can give me.
Here's a pic of the car its all going into....
