Sorry about that! Sometimes I let my fingers do my thinking and that isn't smart.
It is my understanding that some or maybe many go there based on posted comments. However, I don't have a clue and have no right to quantify.
Thanks, I needed that.

Mr. Sublett - Sir, you are a gentleman. We can all learn much from that attitude. Have a wonderful day!

I'm really excited too. I cannot wait. I attend a Church of Christ. I actually don't really like people to know that. Mostly because it's just a name and also that particular name tends to be seen as a group of people who think that their way is the only way. BUT anyways, I wouldn't mind if Lipscomb took away the name of Church of Christ. I wish every school and every church that believes in Jesus Christ as our Savior would because demonations separate us. Anyways, Goooo LIPSCOMB!!!!!!!! I love it and i cannot wait to go!!!!!!!

Is that a Freudian slip or what? Demons are causing division.
Though I remember clearly being your age and having much of the same mindset as you, I am so thankful that God showed me the truth and I found my way back before it was too late for my soul. I hope you will see the errors of your thinking before it is too late.
I understand that you believe you are smarter than your parents and us old legalists. You are so much more aware of the world around you, right? I understand that the scriptures clearly are against what you want to do in life - dance (especially todays dancing), get drunk, party, having fun at church - clapping/stomping/entertainment, etc. Most of us have been where you are and weren't too fond of all those rules that the church applied when we went to college.
However, as I am now one of those older people with young children, I can't sit back and read your post without horror running through me at your attitude. I can only hope I teach my children to think for themselves well enough to avoid the pitfall you have fallen in. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but it is the reality of your situation. You see, the world has gotten you and gotten you good. Your mindset is leading you away from what God wants and towards what YOU want. Can I ask you which one you feel is the best for you?
You won't care but I want you to know that my heart is breaking for you and your family. I can only imagine the fear that your parents must feel knowing that their child is presently lost from God and has turned to the world instead. Have you talked to your parents about this "wordly" view? Are they in agreement. I certainly hope not.
No one can change your mind at this stage, as you feel you know so much more than us older, experienced parents. We're just old fuddy-duddies that want to ruin your fun and just don't get it.
But remember!!!! God hasn't changed in the last 10 year. He's not weaker nor more merciful than he has always been. He had the scriptures written for a reason and he has the power to make sure that we are able to study what is needed to enter his Kingdom. This is the same Old Testament God that flooded the world, allowed his people to be enslaved, killed those who disobeyed him, etc. And yet, he was also merciful to his people and gave them chance after chance which they threw back at him because they would begin to think it didn't apply to them anymore. They were so much smarter than their Jewish parents. The world was more fun and they just didn't think there was only one God or one way. Sound familiar?
God hasn't changed, just how we enter his Kingdom has. He is still a vengeful and jealous God that will give us mercy when we ask for it, but only when we acknowledge our wrongs and ask him for forgiveness. He still wants his commands obeyed. Jesus said that no one can enter the Kingdom unless the obey all of my Father's commands. Are you? Or only those scriptures that you agree with?
Think long and hard about your decisions, you never know when Jesus will return. I hope one day you will remember this post and know that it was written in love, understanding and fear for you.

As long as I have know the CHURCH I have failed to buyinto the sending every other churches to hell. I heard a C of C preacher who was provicing counsel to a non member tell her that God did not hear her prayer because she was in the wrong church. The other church had music which sends you to hell and makes our Lord and God deaf.
C of C membership is limited to families and old family members. Is church membership measured in growth or decline????
I am not saying that I believe that all churches and faiths open the door but the C of C has closed doors for any type of growth and you are avoided by many.
Glod loves all of his people, and music and worship is the door to church worship. Do not close the door before a new member can enter. If music glorifies God and brings a hard heart to the thrown of God then turn up the volume. I am sure that the members of the first century would sit with closed mouths if they visited the Church of yhour choice today. New music wheither accomponied with music or just voice is worship..How many songs do yhou really know from your song book ( Great songs of the Church )???? 12 -15. I consider that bore, Experience worship.
I was raised in the Church my whole life, I went to Harding and even graduated with a minor in Bible. Did they fail when they taught me? Did they fail? They opened my eyes that were closed minded.
While at Harding I would hear my friends say -- Lets go sup the cup and break the bread, Is that what the Lords Supper is??? The Lords Supper is an experience, that brings you close to the cross, isn't it?
The youth of the C of C is the only hope of the future.
This is the first time I have responded to your fourm though I have read it several times. Do not shut the door to the Church. You really do not believe all that you preach from the pulpit. If you go to the store or a resturant after church you are sending someone to hell because they are missing church becaues you are using their service you are contributging to their trip to hell aren't you????
practice what you preach?

Re: CHURCH GROWTH

No one has the right to condemn other faiths or to say that they are going to hell for this or that. Only God will decide. But we can admonish others to follow what the New Testament commands, and it should be obvious that not all "Christian" faiths follow the New Testament faithfully. Many follow their own creeds and preferences in order to gain new members and thus "grow." Such churches worship numbers and figures. But physical "growth" alone does not make a church healthy and biblical. Growth merely makes a church "bigger" and potentially adds more pennies into the church coffers; "growth" does not necessarily make a church "better" spiritually. Cancers also "grow," and the bigger the "growth," the prognosis is generally worse for the patient. Church growth without strict adherence to the Scriptures is merely malignant, non-spiritual growth that carries a dim prognosis.
A healthy church is one that fully trusts in the New Testament, follows Christ's commands, worships Him as He has instructed us, and whose members live the Christian life loving others and being of service to them. This applies to a church membership of 50 or 5,000.
You imply that worship with instrumental music is the way to get new members. This is not sound thinking, for the New Testament only authorizes vocal music (Eph. 5:19 and Col. 3:16). We have no authority to proceed beyond what is written in Scripture in matters pertaining to doctrine and worship, especially when the NT has already told us what kind of music to use. Yes, by incorporating instruments, you'll surely get new members, and they'll come primarily for the "treat of the beat." If people are truly interested in worshiping God "in spirit and in truth," they won't need instruments and performers as incentives to come to worship services.
Conflict Resolution that did not work at Madison

Lipscomb starts institute for conflict resolution
The Institute for Conflict Resolution will open at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., as a resource for students, professionals, businesses and government entities, Lipscomb President Randy Lowry announced.
It will be a local, regional and national resource for anyone interested in learning and applying the innovative concepts of conflict resolution in their professional and personal lives, Lowry said.
He founded the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., before coming to Lipscomb.
This fall, Lipscomb plans to host a National Conference on Dispute Resolution in association with the Pepperdine institute. Former special prosecutor and Pepperdine Law School Dean Kenneth Starr will be the keynote speaker.

Looks like LU has loaded up with the major misteachers in the brotherhood as well as promoting the PROFESSIONAL A CAPELLA MARKETING business pretty hard. One suspects that they see a MARKEK for producing musical worship ministers in the futers.
Furthermore, we have looked at the 2002 lectures whete Terry Briley notes that:
"The book of Isaiah begins with an analysis of Israel's worship. Outwardly, there's nothing wrong. But their hearts are not engaged and their lives are disconnected from their worship."
This year he is majoring on the Law Nailed ot the Cross: wondering out loud if anyone knews the views? I know that one teacher at ACU has pushed the use of the Old Testament in the church. Of course, as a study it would help if the preachers knew that the Law as a SHADOW means an ERROR and we are commanded to use the OT "for our learning." However, we aree not permitted to use the "musical" passages and use them to teach that "God commanded instrumental praise and WE lmust not be disobedient."
Another LU professor has taught that the Lord's Supper should be like a sacrificial meal where God eats with us as we burn the fat--WITH JUBILATION he advises.
With such an utter misunderstanding of the STORY LINE of the Old Testament it is a wonder that people continue to train scholars to go out and teach the Law when they don'k know anything about the Law.
If anyone knows Briley's take on what was NAILED TO THE CROSS it would help if you responded.

How very sad. I came to the site after a lengthy absense and all I get is garbage about somebody singing in a Lipscomb class and other some-such foolishness. Where has all the good, old Madison-dogging gone? I wanted to see how you perverse Bible-beaters were slamming on Phil Barnes and the Elders, or maybe hammering on Tom Haddon going into full-time ministry at the church. Where is the inside scooper? Still malingering in the balcony? I realize the extent of sinner I am in GOD's view; how filthy I am and how my best is nothing but "filthy rags". That gives me the ability to grant other humans a measure of lee-way, knowing how imperfect we all are, and furthermore, totally incapable of choosing GOD over our love affair with sin. Think on that one. Trash me, call me a "change-agent" or better yet "hyper-calvinist" or some other stupid title; but you people back-slapping each other and dogging other Christians petrify me. What is your real agenda? (Here is the perfect spot to put your senseless, pulled out of context, worthless, tradition-laden babble). If you are unaware by now, this response is not at all complimentary. Your site is horrendous and you would be better served picking up trash on the roadside instead of spewing trash on the internet. You men have not changed at all(another insult). The content you continue to spew out is akin to pornographic-100% fantasy!! I don't care if you post this or not. Pitiful and pathetic little men. Sound your horns. Call out the dogs. Phone each other. Whatever. You guys need this e-mail to get you into a whirling dervish. Or is that dancing? Not sure. Tell me. Give me the stupid history. WHY DON'T YOU READ THE BIBLE? Because you can't understand it... that's why. Now YOU know.
Check it out, LJ

I think that this website should really welcome you back after a long [voluntary/involuntary] absence. It needs refreshed by the participants of the winds of change kind of thinking or philosophy that is prevalent not only in the brotherhood but also in the denominational world.
this website has not changed one bit from its sinful ways? What about your seeming lack of concern that our mega congregations have been exploited and eventually acquired by the change advocacy groups? Do you know the difference between: (a) the doctrine of Christ and the teachings of His apostles VERSUS (b) man-made traditions? Unless you know the difference, you will continue to lump them all togetherand thats being scripturally irrational.
If you havent noticed, please take time and read many of the articles and messages delivered by John Waddeythey are timely and appropriate and should serve as reality checks of whats happening in the brotherhoodthe realities that you and others have continued to ignore, deny or reject.
