VARIETIES OF CHANGE AGENTS

Only those who are willfully deaf and blind do not perceive that the Church of Christ is caught in the midst of a major upheaval. Unchecked, this divisive movement will result in a major break in our brotherhood. The agitators, though variegated, have correctly been labeled "change agents." Those who are careful observers have noticed that among the change agents, the following differences can be noted. For example:

  • There are the architects and designers of the movement. These men are found primarily in the administration and on the faculties of Abilene Christian, Pepperdine and, David Lipscomb Universities and Rochester College. These academics write most of the books advocating change in our faith and worship. They host the influential lectureships and workshops where their comrades in change promote their new theories and peddle their programs. They are shaping the minds of our students and especially our future preachers. They will go forth taking their the faulty views into unsuspecting churches.

  • There are the traveling salesmen of change who circulate among our brethren, sowing their seeds of discord, in the name of saving the Lord's church from obscurity and decline. They are found at workshops, lectureship, retreats and campus programs. Some travel circuits, meeting with young impressionable preachers in major cities. Others of this type stay at home and sow their seed via the Internet.

  • There are the men who show-case and demonstrate the change agenda. They are usually the "pastors" of some of our largest churches that have been occupied by agents of change. They display the latest fads and feature guest speakers who advocate the latest innovations. They invite assorted denominational preachers to speak in their churches and bless their innovative programs. They are boldly placing women in leadership roles in their churches. They get media attention from the secular press who love to see the Lord's church thus humiliated. They are given fawning write-ups in the Christian Chronicle. They aspire to fill the same role among Churches of Christ that Rick Warren fills among the Baptists.

  • There are those who are like wolves, who quietly circulating among our schools and congregations looking for weak, vulnerable preachers they can capture and turn to their cause. The follow the example of their master (I Pet. 5:8). They also look for vulnerable congregations and help to expedite their shift from truth to the change agenda.

  • There are those who deceive and those who are deceived. Those who are the deceivers we have already mentioned above. Those who are deceived are often young, weak, in faith and shallow in biblical knowledge. Although they are not malicious, they still leave the path of truth and righteousness for exotic and enticing realms of the forbidden and unauthorized. They are to be pitied. Like blind men following a blind leader, they fall into the ditch of error (Matt. 15:14). They are like sheep following the Judas goat to destruction.

  • Not all change agents have the same goals in mind. Some want to stay among us and change the entire brotherhood into a new kind of church more pleasing to them (I Cor. 5:6). They refuse to repudiate their membership, even though they no longer hold the same biblical views the great majority of our people, past and present, have held. They just want a different kind of Church of Christ. Others are eager to disassociate themselves and make some denominational body their home. However they do not wish to go alone. They are determined to take other Christians, congregations and schools with them. Hence while holding a foreign faith, they remain for a period of time as recruiters. Jesus describes such workers as thieves (John 10:10).

  • Some will end up among the Independent Christian Churches where they can still speak of Restoration and call themselves Christians, but enjoy their instrumental music, choirs, etc. Others will drift into theological skepticism. They might find a home among the Disciples of Christ, Episcopalians, etc.

And just how shall we treat such departing brethren? Those who are the leaders of this destructive movement we must take note of , mark and turn away from (Rom. 16:17). Those who agitate in our churches we must recognize and refuse as self-condemned factious men (Tit. 3:10). No matter who they or where they come from, they should not be invited into our congregations (II John 9-11). Our pulpits and classrooms should be closed to them without further discussion. Our children should be discouraged from attending the schools they control. None of their programs or activities such as youth retreats, elder workshops, preachers forums should be promoted or encouraged. Just as we are forced to deal with a communicable disease, we should isolate and reject all who choose to go onward and abide not in th e teaching of Christ (II John 9-11). If we do nothing we will suffer the devastation of apostasy. If we act quickly and decisively, the epidemic can soon be extinguished.

...........................THE BOOK

What Happened At the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings, planters, seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.

To even start to understand whats happening here, you must read the background materials in the first of the book.

This is only the first edition, and not the end. New editions will be printed as needed. To keep abreast of current changes, please visit our web site; http://www.concernedmembers.com/madison
