Heritage Church of Christ

Worship in a church of christ is defined exclusively as A School of the Word: the Campbells tried to restore A School of Christ but the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites (says Jesus) took it captive again.

Worship which has an performances of self-speak, singing, playing instruments or drama is defined as the mark of STRONG DELUSIONS marked by God with LYING WONDERS.

The Instrumental Music supported by Hermitage Church of Christ is high power Rock and Roll. Good for us, God always provides a way of escape. The ETHOS word points directly to an end-time pagan religion which believes that music has the power to connect you to the gods.

Sounds like a sincere person who has LIT THE FIRES and seems surprised at the huge popularity. Jesus told us NOT to be popular

Mike Cope: A few observations from most discussions about a cappella singing:

First: Most people I know who want to preserve it arent trying to make their case in terms of its Gods way. Some do. One of our Christian college presidents not the one where I teach! once told me that he thought the use of instrumental music would send someone to hell. [Christ said that in Isaiah 30 Revelation 19:20]

(Just when you thought no one really, really, really believed that . . . .

Yes, I know you served the poor, you lived an exemplary life of compassion, justice, and worship but you used a piano in worship . . . .)

Most are talking about the strengths of the tradition a tradition that is preserved by several tribes.

Mike Cope is now in charge of the Workshops at Pepperdine: Next year he will bring in his "dear friend" Rick Atchley to carry on the blasphemy.

Mike Cope: Third: Most people I know who express an interest in having instrumental music are not wanting to lose the a cappella tradition. Its not an either/or. I seriously doubt that the Richland Hills Church will give up their a cappella heritage completely.

Jesus warned that doctors of the law take away the key to knowledge. He called the Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. In the Ezekiel 33 example hypocrites are entertaining preachers, singers and instrument players. Can these people be that Biblically illiterate while posing as SCHOLARS or do they have a more evil agenda?

Maybe you should read this before you fall under the spell of the worship leaderettes in the morning. In response to an e-mail I have listed several proofs that modern "worship" is fulfilling the prophetic types.

It comes as no surprise that the COMMAND for worship clergy is derived from the Jacob-Cursed Levites. They prophesied or were soothsayers with instruments. The "Conservatives" may also be afflicted because they become violent when you suggest that being abandoned to worship the starry host and being sentenced to captivity and death beyond Babylon is NOT God's obsolete LAWS OF WORSHIP.

Parallels from initiations elsewhere are not difficult to find.33 In other words, Burkhardt recognizes that there was something going on related to the cultic nature of the event, not simply a frenzied lack of control.34 Examples of religious androgyny can be found in various forms in Syria and Asia Minor in the third century BC,35 but its clearest and closest expression in that area comes from the Roman Empire at the beginning of the Christian era. It is well documented that the Great Mother under the names of Atargatis or Cybele had androgynous priests, called Galli, who castrated themselves as a permanent act of devotion to the goddess.36 A particular version of the goddess is worshipped under the name of Artemis.

Since the Hebrew term, qedeshim, sacred ones, parallels the way the Syrian priests (galli ) were described as holy (hieroi ), there does seem to be reason to conclude, with Nissinen, that the qedeshim were thought of as men who had assumed an unusual gender role and thereby expressed their life-long dedication to the deity (Homoeroticism). Ringgren, Religions 167, mistakenly says that this was the only kind of homoeroticism prohibited by Scripture, for he fails to see the theological connection between androgynous homosexuality, religious or not, and pagan monism. In other words, there does seem to be some similarity between the assinnu of Mesopotamia and the qedeshim of Canaan. Egyptian goddess worship (Ishtar, Astarte, Isis or Anat) is also evident in Jeremiah 7:18 and 44:1725see Robert P. Carroll, Jeremiah: A Commentary (OT Library; Philadelphia: Westminster, 1986) 213 and 734735.

A step at a time - incremental apostasy

One of the time tested and indicators of change is the method of bringing apostasy in a step at a time. An example is to bring in a piano into the church basement for the children's classes. Some of the comments relayed in the initial post above fall in that category. We keep our "traditional roots" in non instrumental singing in worship at the same time "we explore other forms of worship".

The problem is that a cappella is not a mere "tradition" . It is the way God intended us to worship by reasoning through the new testament. THe repeated use by preachers and teachers equating a cappella music with "our tradition" is in itself an indicator of problems ahead for any church. "Other forms of worship" are usually not worship but apostasy and a form of worship of human talent, certainly not authorized by the new testament.

I also sense that the many attacks on the KJV are related to music in worship and other "traditions" that are propaganda for the change agents among us. We are not a cultural phenomenon but the real church of Christ as long as we follow the Word.

Bump for Dave Clayton of ETHOS church of Christ: a spin off of Lipscomb and Hermitage Church going full throttle instrumental.

They prayed and planned for the PATTERN and missed the one Jesus gave. Even thought about a "free drinks" night at the bar where they meet alternating with a "worship service."

What Happened at the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings,planters,seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.
