The Christian Church which imposed the use of INSTRUMENTS in "worship" were caught in a bear trap: they latched on the Greek word PSALLO to say that Psallo INCLUDES instrumental music and you MUST use instrumental music or you will get hurt. Their best scholars denied their "lifesaver" but that did not prevent people from increasing the pressure to get people to join up with the Society and Organ party."

They had not yet said that God COMMANDED INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC for THEM when He turned Israel over to worship the starry host and David assigned the Levites as Instrumental Prophesiers (sootsayers); and Christ said that God did not COMMAND animal sacrifices or anything connected with the Monarchy. And we are told that A Church of Christ is built upon (educated by) the Prophets and Apostles, and the Prophets radically condemn all of the musical SORCERY performed by robbers and parasites.

However, the SECTARIANISM was based ONLY on the word PSALLO after they decided that they NEEDED any authority at all.

All of the debates leading up to to the NACC and their taking captive a few dupes spoke of M.C.Kurfees who in 1911 wrote a book on PSALLO.

We have annotated our copy and posted it.

It's True: we will have as many threads and repeat until Jesus comes because the masses of religionists will never confess.

Donnie has pointed out that the music 'thingy' has been the major cause of sowing discord during all of church history. We know for a fact that those who IMPOSE what they call "instrumental worship" or machine worship KNOW and have calculated that they can discord and expel up to half of the owners and recoup with a new batch of chickens. People say that those who object or LEAVE sow the discord and thus we know that we have evil people listening to an UNholy spirit. A Disciple will want to understand the general understanding of Sowing Discord in the language of the day.

Thanks Mr. Sublett, we have read your material carefully. We missed the place in Scripture where Jesus outlawed singing or instruments in the NT church. Maybe you are correct, we just need to see it in the Bible.

Thanks!

"Where Jesus outlawed singing or instruments in the NT church"

July 28 2013, 7:49 PM

A-Won,

I am trying to really understand your request.

You mentioned: (1) singing in the New Testament church, as well as (2) instruments in the New Testament church.

Those are specific concepts, thanks!

Please clarify, however, what you meant by "outlawed." Whether it is about singing or mechanically operating a musical device, are you making references to:

1. A positive "command" -- as in "thou shalt sing" or "thou shalt play music"?
2. A negative "command" -- as in "thou shalt not sing" or "thou shalt not play music"?

Which of the two options above is closest to what you think and needs a response? Furthermore, I get the impression by your using both "singing" and "instruments" in the same assertion, that operating musical devices in the NT assembly is not unlawful because it is not outlawed in the NT. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Re: "Where Jesus outlawed singing or instruments in the NT church"

I am so happy that I learned how to read the text as it is written. Sorry, it took about 60 years. Donnie's question shows the problem.

Thanks Mr. Sublett, we have read your material carefully. We missed the place in Scripture where Jesus outlawed singing or instruments in the NT church. Maybe you are correct, we just need to see it in the Bible.

Note the two ways of thinking in the world. As Donnie is aware, no one said 'Thou shalt NOT sing in thy church.'

I said that there is no COMMAND to SING in the church. To fit the first race of thinking, YOU would have to find a command that says "thou SHALT sing in a TUNEFUL sense having four different groups, singing four different words, at four different times to four different tune."

First, "melody as tunefulness belongs to the 19th century." A melody for a David might be do-do---do. Psallo never means "a musical melody."

Even if you "do melody" in the modern sense it would be a series of single notes: the other 'parts' are not melody and may be excluded by the Purpose Driven Purpose to TEACH and COMFORT one another.

Simple harmony did not begin to be discovered before the pipe organ allowed composers and monks happy.gif to fiddle around with the keys: that was after about 1250 so we KNOW that there is no command for HARMONY which all Phd's think is melody.

That which is written for our learning is that which is written for our learning.

There is nothing written for our learning which is metrical. But, we know that the liturgical act of singing a few favorites over and over has NO intention of teaching but to Obey the LAW OF SANGING!

Therefore, you cannot obey the CONTENT of teaching and "SANG".

That is proven in that some psalms (only) had to be radically REwritten and set to a simple folk meter and sung in UNISON (only) for a long time.

If you drift from simple congregational singing to CCM derived from Voodoo and Rock and Roll written to LEARN you to want instruments then you cannot be a New Testament Church.

The PATTERN of Jesus is that He SPOKE A HYMN to be used once a year and "went out" without a closing prayer. happy.gif

The Pattern

July 28 2013, 9:34 PM

A-Won may have spotted two approaches to decide the instrument question, namely. . .

1. To allow anything in worship that is not forbidden by the New Testament. Luther's assumption is to cleanse the worship of forbidden items.

2. To accept in worship "only" those items that are expressly described in the New Testament. Zwingli's "radical" approach to cleanse worship to the bone.

3. A third approach is that instrumental music is by its very nature subversive of reason and spirituality, which is the most popular approach by some on Concerned Members.

A-Won adopts the first, perhaps.

Architects of change may not be attracted by either 1, 2, or 3 but are influenced by:

1. Cohesion with instrument churches, and the wider evangelical churches. Admiration of exponential growth of megachurches, thinking they can replicate this explosive growth at their home church.

2. Adoption of a venue that employs their professional abilities from the entertainment community--some are embedded in the local Nashville music scene.

3. Some vile toward perceived poor experiences in religious life, which they direct toward Churches of Christ.

Leadership arise within local congregations where teacher/leaders bring to themselves many disciples with the congregation, in other words, steal sheep and at the expense of history and tradition are willing to trash all these to rise to a highly regarded status. This is a postmodern version of the trouble at Corinth as described by Paul in 1 Corinthians 1. "Some are of Paul, of Cephas, of Apollos, or of Christ."

The problem with determined changes against determined opposition is division and membership loss. The eldership is weakened by a loss of membership, and of money, and may be reluctant to bring ultimate ruin by crossing the Rubicon--adopting a physical instrument on the stage, and sealing the departure of many that will spell the end of that congregation.

Paul said that he would gladly give up his liberty to insure that the cause of Christ would be strong.

...........................THE BOOK

What Happened at the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings, planters, seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.

To even start to understand whats happening here, you must read the background materials in the first of the book.

This is only the first edition, and not the end. New editions will be printed as needed. To keep abreast of current changes, please visit our web site; http://www.concernedmembers.com/madison

Here is the list of players;

5 Godly Elders
10 Not so Godly Elders
120 "Deacons" (allegiance unknown)
2,800 - 4,000 church "members"
2 "teners" (people who have publicly confessed to have broken all ten commandments)
Unknown number of "sinners" (This is what the 10 elders call us.)
Unknown number of "demons" (Flying everywhere, to many to count)
