Doc if you are selling stuff including OPINIONS then maybe you need to get your own forum. Faith is one of those things prophesied by Christ that He would establish as UMBRELLICUM which was to protect the LITTLE FLOCK of lost spirits from any and all theologians or merchants.

That leaves the LAMBS free to just READ the stories as RECORDED--truth or opinions--from which we can learn what NOT to do. We learn from all historic epics and in the Old Testament we understand the evil nature of the Civil-Military-Clergy complex which enslaved and enslaves others.

The atheist view is a FAITH based on personal opinions and God said that the imagination of man is only evil continually. Scholarship posts on WHAT IS and does not try to REWRITE.

If you can see it, hear it, feel it or smell it then it is NOT the Kingdom of God. Faith lets you believe that we know only a tiny fraction of "reality." Paul said that we live move and have our being in God so God is not a people. Science says that we live in parts of 11 dimensions of which we can only experience three plus time.

Let's wait for Dr. Peter Boghossian's response to this thread ... first before we go any further with all his posts pending approval.

From Wikipedia:

Peter Gregory Boghossian (born 1966) is an American philosophy instructor, activist, author, speaker, and atheism advocate. He is a full-time faculty member at Portland State University. His primary research areas are critical thinking, philosophy of education, and moral reasoning. Boghossian is a speaker for the Center for Inquiry, the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, and the Secular Student Alliance. He has been nominated as a member of the Global Secular Council.[1]

His book, A Manual for Creating Atheists, was published in 2013. In it, he describes what he dubs "street epistemology", a set of techniques that atheists can use in personal conversations with religious believers to get them to think more critically with the eventual goal of religious disaffiliation.[2][3] The book has inspired the creation of independent "street epistemology" groups.[4]

When people use words like "epistemology" can we consider him a critical thinker? Among the "scholars" they use meditation or self-think pretending that they can understand beyond clear statements of belief or fact. I am not certain where that "beyond the sacred pages" comes from but the rational world believes that there are entities beyond what you can see with your eyes.

An atheist needs much more faith than one who just reads and understands statements made by historic people. Jesus said that truth was hidden in parables from the wise or sophists and Paul speaks of Jewish Fables. We mortals need to understand the fables written on clay tablets without selling our bodies to affirm or deny.

Paul and the Civil Greek society worried a lot about people who sold sophistry: speaking, singing, playing instruments, acting, dancing or simply putting facts into a poetic form known to fool the foolish.

FAITHFULNESS is what saves us 24/7. Faith or Pistis includes TO COMPLY.

The baptized are called BELIEVERS.

Rom. 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel.
For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

The blood of Christ (not man's faith) remits past sins in the conversion process when one is buried with Christ in baptism -- by God's grace through man's faith (Eph. 2:8,9; Acts 2:38; numerous passages). Without the burial with Christ in baptism, the initial salvation (remission of past sins) does not occur. One must be resurrected with Christ to begin newness of life (Romans 6:4; Gal. 3:27).

After the CONVERSION process, the believer (the Christian) must remain faithful, even or while he is under God's grace. He is to do good works along with his faith as faith without works is dead (James 2:17,24). His faithfulness is required (Rev. 2:10) in order to receive the crown of life in the end. "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12).

("Faith only" and "God's grace" without responsibility are for the not-so-grown-up Christians: actually for conversion prospects.)

Dr. Peter has a number of new threads and responses to existing posts -- they are waiting to be published. We await his response to this thread [which is the only one published so far] in order for us to continue with the discussion. Dr. Boghossian, are you there? Or any of your staff?

We may have to lump some of the challenges for eating at the ADULT'S TABLE in this thread. His 1 Peter 3:15 project inserts FAITH when the meaning of IS is the subject HOPE..

Peter certainly did not say that his HOPE was based on his human ability to reject the WORD.

Reason is the OPPOSITE of human reasoning but more later.

Heb. 11:1 Now faith is the substance [cconfidence] of things hoped for, the evidence [conviction] of things not seen.

Those OF FAITH or OF TRUTH says Jesus are not OF this world or those born of the earth. When they hear the key invitation (election) they demand to be baptized.

13) Do you have doxastic closure? Are you unwilling to compare your faith to evidence and reason?

I have a plate full of Doxa noodles which I would like to share. What the doctor accuses Churches of Christ is that the term “doxa” is used somewhat interchangeably also in reference to fallen angels.

We glorify Jesus by speaking or reading that which is written for our learning without the need to CONFIRM opinions. I know of no BIBLICAL faith or practice which does not rest on what others hear others say which is based on hence, think, suppose, imagine, (opp. phroneō, joined with phantasiai, hallucinations,

Concerned Members can quote Scripture which can be refuted only by "scholarship" which denies the black on white text. It seems that the Doctor insists on using human intellect with a long pursuit of pros and cons in order to refute Scripture and historic scholarship. That is doxastic closure which probably cannot respond..

Peter says: authadeis [self-willed], doxas ou tremousin, blasphēmountes,

Blasphemy is calling the Spirit OF Christ a liar. That is not so much a primary sin but the mark of those who are abandoned to save themselves.

I haven't had much time to review Doc's messages. He's posed questions, but I would like his actual participation in any ongoing discussion. Is he just a passing through? Portland State University has an enrollment of 28,076 (2015); Dr. Peter Boghossian is a philosophy professor.

Here's a link worth following:

===================

OK, his messages are being reviewed ... published. Is it a "project" or a "survey" associated with "faith"? Is it about/against the church of Christ specifically? Is it about the Scripture and philosophy? Let's see....

...........................THE BOOK

What Happened at the Madison Church of Christ?

There are thousands of churches being taken over across America.

This book is only about one of those churches. It's about the Madison Church Of Christ. By studying the methods used here along with the resource references you might be able to inoculate your church. At the very least you will recognize the signs early on.

Many of the current members of the Madison Church of Christ still don't know what happened.
Some never will know! This book is for them as well.

Madison Church of Christ was a 60 year old church. At one time it was one of the largest churches in the US, and the largest Church of Christ.

It thrived for many years on the vision of it's elders and those of it's ministers. Those visions undoubtably came from the the inspired word of Jesus Christ.

At sometime in the last 10 years there was a deliberate plan by a majority of the elders to take the Madison Church of Christ into a more worldly realm.

They used secrecy, covert planning, and outside sources to scheme and to change the format and direction of the Madison Church of Christ.

The Elders knew that the membership would never approve such a plan. Using the tools of the "Community Church Movement"(consultants, books, seminars, meetings, planters, seeders) they slowly started initiating change so it was never noticed by the members until it was too late.....

At the heart of the plan was the fact that old members were going to be driven off so new techniques could be used to go out and reach the unchurched through new "Contemporary Holy Entertainment" methods developed by the "Community Church Movement"

Old members had to be kept on board long enough to get their plans ready, or the funds would not be there to pay for the new building. So by the plans very nature, it had to be secret.

The church had no plan in effect to renew or approve elders. There was never any need. The elders had always been "as approved by God". 10 of the last 15 elders would begin to shed some doubt on that.

The Elders did not even need a majority at first, because some of the elders went along unwittingly.

This edition starts shortly after some of the members begin to smell something strange in January 2001. Later editions may go back and fill in some of the timeline.

To even start to understand whats happening here, you must read the background materials in the first of the book.

This is only the first edition, and not the end. New editions will be printed as needed. To keep abreast of current changes, please visit our web site; http://www.concernedmembers.com/madison

Here is the list of players;

5 Godly Elders
10 Not so Godly Elders
120 "Deacons" (allegiance unknown)
2,800 - 4,000 church "members"
2 "teners" (people who have publicly confessed to have broken all ten commandments)
Unknown number of "sinners" (This is what the 10 elders call us.)
Unknown number of "demons" (Flying everywhere, to many to count)
