I have been looking for an Arab, but am beginning to think of also looking for other breeds...
I am looking for a horse that is at least 15hh (I am 5'10"), not too expensive (I'm not rich... ) and can do some showing and maybe endurance/le trec. I love Arabs, but realise I cannot be too picky. I am looking most of all for a friend. Not much jumping and dressage will be done with this horse. It does need to be good on the roads, with the vet & farrier, etc.
Anyone got anything for me?

If it's an arab you'd like why not try some arab racing yards?
They may have horses that haven't made the grade for sale at a not too ridiculous price.
If it helps there's one in Whyteleaf near Caterham, Surrey called Joyson's hill stables. Run by Brian and Andrea Boulton.
If they don't have anything they may know of a good sales or something?
Hope that helps.

I know Brian Boulton's yard. They have or had an Arab racing stallion that I used to look after - he's a chestnut called Radish (well - Radaron really). Anyone know him?

Sorry Luda, just that's what I know! Used to work at a racing yard before I had to have a big operation on a ruptured kidney a few years ago and give up horses for a couple of years. Just started riding again last year and couldn't go back to working with them as I don't have the fitness or strenght levels anymore (scarring has weakened the belly muscles!). (well, and i don't miss the cold, wet mornings when i'm sat at my pooter!)
Angela, I used to ride for Brian a LONG time ago but don't recall that name. There were quite a few chestnuts at the time though. One called Sally (of all names for a horse!) and a Doriket (sp?) There was one chestnut in particular that was stabled next to the caravan and was doted on. Could that be Radish? I'm sure he was called Archie or something???
Anyway, sorry to run free on your post Mushroom!
Opps, we're supposed to be posting ads!
Mushroom, read the thread 16.2 TB gelding for sale. I've put it up on behalf of a friend. he's a gorgeous horse and would be more than capable of what you want - and he doesn't cost a bomb!

I rode Radish in about 1992-4 (I think). He went to Brian after that - might have been 1993 or 94.
When did you ride there?
I know that when he went to Brian's they changed his stable name, but I can't remember what they called him. He had four white socks (I think)... oh - I'll have to dig out a piccy of him.

Hi Angela
It would have been about 1995 or 1996 I rode there. Maybe even later than that. Mind you, with 4 white socks I'm sure he could have been the one I said about that got doted on. He was a really scrawny looking thing, not at all skinny, just always looked a bit of a baby if you know what I mean. I thought he was a gelding but I could well be wrong.
One thing you can be sure of is that he'll have been well looked after! they treated the horses like humans there. Even thought the stables were really run down the horses looked better than any others at the race meetings.
If you find a piccy post it up on here or BHS and I'll see if I recognise him.

Hi Mushroom,
Yes, I can see how that would be a problem. I guess it depends a lot on the training methods used in that particular yard.
Some yards ensure their horses are well behaved and calm to hack, etc but others concentrate more on the winning which I think could well lead to them wanting to just run.
Same with TBs really which is why they need intensive re-schooling when they retire from racing.
Depends how much of a challenge you want i guess!

he is good in traffic as I live on a busy road he was hacking up that road as a three year old. He has been out on loan for the last 18mths to a young girl who just hacked him out. Dylan is only 5 so is a little green at times and therefore needs a confident rider as otherwise takes to mikey a bit.......don't most ponies?

I have a 15.2h arab x who goes like the clappers but has breaks, she refuses to be a dressage horse. She is only available for share, cos when I put her out on loan last year she had to be rescued and prosecution occurred! where are you?

I should have updated this! I am living in France after many failed attempts at getting a job in the UK. However, when I do, it will be in East Herts/London area.
