I don't think the free online plans are intended for a step by step construction project. I don't think that any more detailed plans exist. The online plans do require a bit of thought and some carpentry skills, but that is the fun of it. Get an idea of how it's supposed to be, then think of how you can make it better. Adapt it to the type of sailing you'll do most.

Since the Iceflyer is still fairly new (compared to the DN) the class is not restricted in any way. At this point, I think that is a good thing. Wally has already done a lot in offering free online plans. Free online step by step plans would probably cost more than we'd be willing to pay.

I built one last year, and it's different that the plans call for. The next one I build will deviate even more.

Parts???

I am just gathering all the info and parts to build a ice flyer. I know I can get the chocks and runners from SARNS. The only other part I am concerned about is PA 150 (Steering SHAFT). Any clue and what to use in place of?

Also do you have a source for the PA 204 Pedal Assembly?

I have the mast, sails and plans, ordered a few odds and ins hope to be on the ICE next winter.

Thank you

Sarns sells tubes called Oilite bushing assembly for the front steering chock and steering post on a DN. The front tube is 3 7/8" long and can be adapted for the Ice Flyer.

I would like detailed building plans for the Ice Flyer including suggested hardwareand steering mechanism. I have 30+ years of sailing experience, but none in ice boat operation or building. My wife, also an experience small boat sailor, and i plan to build 2 boats. I would appreciate all the help I can get

As far as I know, there are no other plans available for the Ice Flyer. Having built many ice boats over the years (mostly DNs), I believe the average home builder can build from these plans if they study the drawings and pictures carefully until they understand completely how it goes together. I realize not having ready made parts is a problem. Two sources for raw materials www.aircraftspruce.com and www.onlinemetals.com may help. I'm also working on a home buildable version of the pedal assembly. I'll let everyone know how this works out.
