Wally,
I love your design. I downloaded the plans and I built a jig to make the
plank. I used 10" hardwood flooring pieces and 1/4" bolts to make about 20
clamps.

I live about ten minutes from Bruce Cahill, and I went to see his
ship..geeze the man builds Windsor chairs for entertainment..he ought to put
it in the Maine Wooden Boatbuilder's show! I have no doubts mine will not
be as nicely finished as his..But I'll get a bigger sail Bwahahahah!!

Anyway, the most frustrating thing is waiting for the local sawmill to cut
up a spruce log for me. My friend is CNC waterjet cutting some runners for
me from some 316L plate I had access to. Cheap, but won't heat treat. I'm
making insert type runners with rock maple stiffeners.

Aircraft Spruce sells aluminum tubing, so the helper will be easy.

Is your mast step still available?

Have you played with 36" runners?

I can't really tell the runner side profile. My impression is 5" flat under
the chock bolt, and then a .020" rise gradually to the nose of the runner,
then sharpen the whole mess to a 90 degree Vee profile, with a .008 or so
flat at the point?

Anyway, I can't wait to go sailing.. we have seriously BIG lakes around
here..I spent some time out your way, you probably need to go to the midwest
to get some BIG ICE kicks!

Have you ever tried racing with the DN boys?

Thanks for the plans and inspiration.. I've always wanted an Iceboat!

Ive only used the stock Sarns runners but I think they should work well.

As the boats have gotten faster, the lakes here in Colorado seem to have shrunk. I think a DN will beat an ice flyer around a race course in 5 to 15 mph winds. The ice flyer seems to have a wider wind range on both the low and high end.
