hi,
I personally used white «exterior» carpenter glue and it work great.
I let the pieces dry for 24 hours .
But others might suggest to use epoxy glue.

I use West System epoxy for most of the construction for an iceboat. However, I have successfully used waterproof white glue. For your application, I would use biscuits if you have a biscuit joiner or know someone with one. There isn't much stress at the top of the sides so it may not make a difference.
