| I cleaned out my garage this last weekend, and I found some airfoils that are supposed to be fiber-glassed to the back of the plank. They are about 30 inches long by about 4 inches wide. I got them from Wally a few years back, and never put them on. After so many years of sailing and not installing them, I don't think I'll get around to it any time soon. Since I'm trying to reduce the clutter in the garage, I was going to toss them, but then thought that there may be someone out there that could benefit from them. Email me if you want pictures of them. bruno-camping@usa.net
If you come pick them up (I'm located in Milwaukee, WI), they are free to a good home. Otherwise, I am willing to ship. Price for shipping will be actual price plus $10.00.

For someone with a 1.5 inch thick rear plank, these might be useful. What they are is polyester and glass rear foils (about the dimensions described) and were out of a mold and were intended to be installed at the back end of a simple beam. There a little hassle to install as you have to epoxy them on the rear of the beam (in a fashion to make an airfoil) and then add some epoxy/ glass and fairing to make smooth transitions between the foil and the rear beam.
These work fairly well and are also reasonably durable- I still have one beam that has them. The foils dont do a lot in high winds since seems you dont hike much anyhow in high winds but they make the boat faster in lighter winds. But the boat will no longer hike as well which some people like and some people dont like.. | |
