This weekend, I set up my new Ice Flyer at the New England Ice Yacht Association annual meeting and swap meet in Westboro, Massachusetts. We had a good turnout with weather that was almost summer like. Most people at the event had never seen an Ice Flyer and half of them didn't know what it was. Most of the people I sail with want to try it (good thing I have two ice boats) and a couple of people talked about building one. Of course, there were more than a few comments on how to make the boat "better".
My goal here was to promote Ice Boating. I think the Ice Flyer offers a good alternative to the DN for people looking for an easier boat to build and less expensive. Young people were especially interested in the boat due to it's radical design and promise of an exciting ride. Who knows...maybe it will get a few more people on the ice. |
