Hi folks:

I've been working on my dirt boat project for some time now, and I am very nearly ready to start putting things together. Although I'm not using the Ice flyer design, I am planning to use a wind surf sail set up with the pilot behind the rear axle. I have a lot of questions about the relationship of the guyed support strut and the mast. This has mostly to do with the minimum separation but also the latest ideas in connections and materials. Could I use a piece of a broken mast and make both the connections to the hull with identical "Chinook" mast bases? Does someone have a link to pictures of a particularly nice mast/strut connection detail?

I'm also looking for information about proven ways to reinforce my masts for use on the dirt boat. These resources must be on a website somewhere? Please?

I guess I was talking about "the Hound" in my question above.

I've also seen some pilot-in-the-rear designs using what appear to be wind surf sails, but with a bent lower boom instead of the conventional boom. What has been written about this technique? Does anyone know where I can get information about this system. Is it Sorroco that is using it?

Are there any major "negatives" in using the vestigal wind surf boom?
