Seems a lack of interest and even with the waivers, too much liablility risk (and I beleive this to be one of the safest ice boats out there..) so the Ice Flyer web site is going down when the current paid hosting time runs out.
If there is something anyone wanted off the web site, please down load it fairly soon. Im not sure how much longer the web site will stay up but the new hosting bill is not going to get paid..
Sorry to see it go..

Wally, I have enjoyed reading your articals and theories on designing the Iceflyer and am glad I had a chance to download most of everything you had on the site. Will you still be posting on this forum ? I hope to have my landflyer ready to go soon.
Regards, Tim

I still very much enjoy sailing the IF and discussing improvements (did anyone else get to try the sail raked over to leeward???). However, I cant justify keeping the web site up and probably dont have any liability doing so but to some extent, its still a risk with my kids college funds...
Ive sailed a lot of different things on land/water/ice and there isnt anything as intensly fun as an iceflyer on a dry lake bed with pucker mounds in about a 20 mph wind...(I think Rolley will agree)..

wh,
I'll agree if you kick the wind up a bit and throw in some long winded jack rabbits. Still, its hard to beat blowing up powder drifts in northern plains ground blizzard, or for that matter getting "slingshotted" out of a dust devel.
Tried your floppy mast trick in some slow conditions. No downside that I noticed. A raked mast should help in maintaining sail shape. I'm pretty sure the sail/mast wasn't designed to be forced into the vertical. The question for me will be how it affects the hiked mode.

Ahhh... forgot about the wild sling shot ride out of the dust devil..
I only got to try the sloppy mast twice and it was in higher drag conditions where the rear sail config normally is a little slower. I think it made a difference in these conditions. For one thing, I was hiking less but it needs more of a controlled "experiment" to see for sure although implementing it on one tack and not the other is somewhat of a controlled experiment. Havent had a chance to try it in low drag conditions and may have to wait till this summer as our lower elevation lakes are now open and the mountain lakes are snow covered. My rig is set up to run it either way, sounds like yours also with the stay adjusters. Might get another ice boat sesion in if we get lucky.

My job unfortantely has me spending too much time in China (missed iceboating almost the entire month of Jan and just got back again) and its interesting that the Chinese government allows almost all web sites to be viewed but they dont like Network 54 for some reason. I also really like the way the completely unrelated ad's hijack the message reading.
