| - I just returned to my land of moisture from this year's Playa, New Mexico event. Good people, mellow cows, good birding, good surface, and great wind. All the assorted boats zipping about was like an aeral dogfight. Too much fun. Kids on ATVs would shoot out within seconds to tow a boat with problems back to camp. My main problem was a snapped axle bolt (5/8" grade 8). Hope to be back next year with Windflyer #2, Brother #1, and a larger axle. |

Rolley, I heard you were there and that it was a good time (from Tead)... I intended to go but couldnt get things together. Dang.. Next year..
Did you get to do any full moon sailing? I always had a great time at that event including sailing into a huge twister and full moon sailing in 20 mph winds and hitting over 70 mph on several occasions (great winds normally this time of year). Even great live music at night from the El Paso boys. Just dont piss off those big bulls! |

This year's full moon/good wind coincided with cloud cover. I've done a bit of pitch dark sailing but not with other boats about. I wonder what the odds of collision are on three randomly moving objects going 25MPH on a two square mile surface? |

People would mount the red flashing bicycle lights several places on the boat so that others could see you. Or strings of LED Christmas lights hung on stays, etc. carrying a small 110 volt inverter and battery. With a full moon, you can see fairly well on the Playa. Its the bulls or cows standing around on the dark nights that are probably the worst thing you need to worry about (and worry a lot about). | |
