Shock absorbing stays

A problem arises as sailing surfaces get rougher and my rear beam (solid hickory) gets more springy. Steel cable is too efficient at transferring the bouncing impacts of the wheel or runner to the mast support. Replacing the steel with double braid 1/4" nylon line has worked well for me so far. Strong and elastic, its easy on the boat, easy on the ride, and produces a sloppy mast effect without the slop.
