I think we all agree that Ken was a nice guy .. probably I knew him better than most - if you can get to know someone well in just five weeks - we had our ups and downs but we always ended the day friends with a handshake and a smile. Hey I am a nice guy - I keep on telling you.
He was dismissed for the simple reason that the size of the crowd determined the size of the club wage bill. We cannot afford a non playing coach because the cash flow was not there on one side of the balance sheet. We kept spending on players wages , travel, facilities etc but nothing was coming in via ticket sales, sponsorship etc . But heck you know that - this was your plan to squeeze the club and hockey in Cardiff out of business -
the ISL have said in writing again they are not interested in Cardiff with the present rink.
You know what our original plan was ..to have Rick Strachan as player coach but from what I am told by more than one person, he was intimidated out of town.
Yes Ken did know what he was coming into - a quick buck? - I think not - but he believed in hockey and that if he could get the team to play good winning hockey the fans would come... well we all know what happened - Ken Southwick - RIP killed of by the so-called FRIENDS of Cardiff Devils.
