HAZELHURST IS NEW PLAYER-COACH

Scot Mark Hazelhurst is the new player-coach of the Cardiff Devils.
The 28-year-old defenceman from Peterhead has already played a significant role as a leading British player in the new Findus British National League Cardiff Devils and has now been given the chance to guide the club into the top half of the table.
A sheet-metal engineer, based in Telford, Hazelhurst has played for the Tigers, Guildford Flames and the Milton Keynes Kings who the Devils face at the Court of the Kings on Saturday.
“Haze”, as he is known to players and fans, will then lead his team against Paisley Pirates at the Wales National Ice Rink on Sunday (Face Off 6 p.m.) who the Devils thrashed 11-3 in Scotland last weekend in a fiercely fought contest which saw three players thrown out of the game including Cardiff netminder Tom Noble.

Said Hazelhurst: “I am very excited at the prospect of working with the Devils and turning them into a major force in FBNL hockey. I have experience of coaching at development level at all my clubs and relish the challenge of showing what I can do at Cardiff. We have a good nucleus here and I will be looking to build the team ready for top-of-the-table ice hockey.”

Cardiff Devils Director Sue Bradley said: “ Mark Hazelhurst is committed to bringing the winning habit back to the club and he has our full support in winning back the fans.”
