Explanation

From what I understand about the lease (not having seen it personally I obviously can’t say for sure) then the lease which Phillips/ Candy have on the rink only stands whilst:
(a) There is either an ISL or BNL team playing out of Cardiff;
(b) There is junior development in the Cardiff rink; AND
(c) There are public skating sessions.

The problem with getting in new ownership to take over the Devils has been that although there are backers and certainly the ISL were willing to accept the team (not sure about BNL as they were busy accepting the deals from Phillips).

If this team fail to see out the season then my understanding is that the lease becomes voidable and can be taken over by people who have the best interests of ice-hockey and the Cardiff Devils at heart.

Whilst obviously I would prefer seeing Cardiff teams succeed no matter what, this scenario is somewhat strange in that for the Cardiff Devils to survive long term we need the current team to fail, and although the decision is hard, I would prefer to see one season where hockey fails in order that Cardiff does not lose ice-hockey forever.
