It's good to hear that Ken is so positive about the team and he speaks a lot of sense. May I suggest that if you have the chance, grab a few words with him. I think you would be pleasently surprised about what he has to say about the team and the reasons why he joined the club. He is a truely nice bloke.


Southwick sure that new-look Devils are getting it right Sep 8 2001

THINGS are slowly coming together for the new-look Cardiff Devils, according to coach Ken Southwick.

After two defeats in the opening games of the season, Southwick says the players are getting to know each other well and are aiming to get a first victory under their belts this weekend.

The Devils play Swindon Lynx at the Wales National Ice Rink in the British National League tonight.

Southwick said, "We have had a good week of practice and the team have done a lot of work. We are a new team. We need to improve and get to know each other."

Cardiff went down to a 4-3 loss in their game in midweek against Swindon.

Southwick continued, "I don't think it will effect them. It should be the motivation they need to win. We were winning 3-1 and then lost 4-3." Last week, hundreds of Devils protestors demonstrated outside the rink before face-off with Peter-borough Pirates.

They are planning another vigil this weekend.

"I think the team came through it with flying colours," said South-wick. "We lost 11-4 and there were some defensive mistakes and some soft goals but, as far as effort goes, I was pleased."

Netminder Tom Noble, Albie O'Con-nell and Gerry Keefe all make their home debuts for Cardiff.

Southwick said, "Albie and Gerry got off the plane and played the next day which isn't always good. Hopefully, we are getting a couple of new players in just to strengthen the club. There's a good possibility." Swindon loss.
