Monday Night Nov. 5 DWLL Scores

by Larry's Driver (Login larrysdriver)

Monday Night DWLL – November 5, 2001

In attendance were a number of lacrosse fans and major, senior, junior, and NLL players watching the second last game of the fall season. Sighted were Shawn Williams of the Brooklin Redmen and Rochester Knighthawks, Steve Toll of the Brooklin Redmen, and Toronto Rock, Paul Stewart of the Brooklin Merchants and the Irish World Cup field lacrosse team, Ryan McMichael of the Green Gaels. Behind the bench were Brad McArthur of the Brooklin Redmen, Montreal Express, and also coach of the Green Gaels assisted by Jay Morrison for the Blue team. Behind the bench for the Green team was Ryan Sallie of the Whitby Warriors. Also spotted in the crowd was Doug Luey of the WLMA and management of the Green Gaels. Notable referee was Gary Marks of the Minto Cup (I think 1985) Whitby Warriors.

Game one was won by the short staffed Black team over the White team by a score of 5 to 1. Unfortunately I was not able to get the scorers or shots. Some comments. Black #7 displayed an aggressive under your skin style reminiscent of Kevin Dance. Black #2 controlled the defensive end and played the transition game effectively with her long passes down the floor. White # 2 was the fastest player on the floor. Has Steve Toll like speed.

Game two was won by the Blue team over the Green team by a score of 6 to 0. Shots were 20 to 12 for the Blue Team. Goal scorers were Oskana Karynicki, Maria Sacco, Tamara Williams (a sniper like Shawn), Patti Cucinato, and Leigh Gallas (Marty Gallas, Warriors coach’s daughter) with two.

Great effort for the Green team was shown by Lori Stewart (Paul’s friend), Mony Witt, and others who I did not recognize.

The Wamper was also in attendance and he is counting these two games to his all time total of 69 games in the year 2001.

Masters Lacrosse

Hello,
Just putting up a post for all those women who are playing in the DWLL. Maybe you should think about playing in the Masters league during the summer. If you can throw, pass, run and want to have fun then give me an email. there are two divisions JR (21-35) and SR (35-until you can't walk). Something for some of you to do in the summer months. Lots of fun. And you get to meet a lot of different people.

I would be very interested in talking to you about our tournament next summer.
In the next session (spring/summer) DWLL will be offering a non-contact league. We haven't worked out all of the details yet, but I would imagine that we would be playing by masters rules.
Do you currently have a league running or do you just play in tournaments. Are there any womens tournaments up and running or would you be playing co-ed.
Please contact me at enj@interlinks.net

Open tournament

by (Login rdmn21)

DWLL is thinking about hosting a tournament in the summer of 2002. It takes a lot of time to organize one, therefore we are looking for information and input now.
If you are interested please contact enj@interlinks.net
Should this tournament be contact, or non contact.
DWLL will be offering a non contact houseleague next spring in addition to our now up and running contact league.
Give me some input and we'll see if we can get a tournament up and running.
Thanks

Actually......

by DWLL-StatsCentral (Login DWLL-StatsCentral)

Actually Lisa Gordon may have what you state, however with only 3/4 of the gamesheets turned in and filled in correctly by the timekeepers, what you see is what you get.

by laxstats (Login lacrossebunny)

with 10 games under their belt and 7wins: 2 losses: 1 tie they lead the league!

#12 on the Green team has 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists)

someone should write up a chart of top score leaders, assists, penalties, and next three teams...

Any More Televised Games

by (Login lgreen)

Is CHEX going to televise any more games that anyone knows of? I would LOVE to see a game before I commit to playing. My schedule doesn't allow much free time to drive to Oshawa right now, but if there was another feature on TV then I can always tape it!!!

Burlington Womens League?

by (Login Shooter18)

JUst wondering if there is a league for 22 and over? I am interested in playing, and spoke with a coach last year who was thinking of starting a womens league in the area. If anyone has any information about it, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Upon further review, an assist has been added to #6 Green during last weeks game.

However, her point scorign streak ended at 1 game, with the failure to gain a point this week!

Hope this doesn't sound patronizing, but...
You guys are starting to get the hang of it...Ball movement, defense, agressiveness and a little attitude!
Two good games tonight...
Keep up the good work!

It would be really nice if the refs both wore uniforms, this is a very serious league and we want only the best!!! LOL
By the end of the season I'm sure we'd give your masters team a run for their money, or a good laugh anyways.
Thanks for all the good work, keep it up. And by the way, #6 Green didn't get her assist on the game sheet for last week. I need to get points any way I can!

Yes, there are some good players!

by newlaxfan2 (Login newlaxfan2)

LOL But I'm still trying to learn the names of my own teammates without even worrying about trying to learn the names of my opponents.

Let's see.... I remember one of the scorers for one of the teams we played .... she wore a red helmet and has red hair.... :^D And that's about as much as I can remember.

Why not come out and watch the games yourself? We play at Soccer City in Whitby this week -- games start at 7:30 and at 8:30.

I do know that some of my teammates drive quite a distance to play in this league -- from as far as Brampton and Hamilton. Now THERE's dedication.

Our fall league has already started, but if you would like to be put on our mailing list for the spring registration please leave a message with your name, home address, e-mail address, phone number and any questions you may have.

We are also considering having a contact AND non-contact league, if anybody is interested let me know so we can see if we'll have enough players for both leagues.

The e-mail address is dwll8@hotmail.com.

Thanks.

You've got lots of lacrosse background, i'm not to sure of the female box lacrosse leagues however i know many people who have made the transition from box lacrosse to womens field lacrosse and now love both of them very much. The two games are very different however they both challenge your skills and if you are up for the challenge the U-20 Womens Field lacrosse league will start in the spring. Depending on which area you live in. There are U-20 teams in Kitchener, St.Catharines, Orangeville, Brampton, Kawartha, Six Nations, Orillia, Owen Sound, and maybe Oshawa!

While you're at it, why not in Mississauga, too!

by (Login lgreen)

I would drive to Whitby from Mississauga purely for the love of the sport (and scheduling permitted,) however, I would love to see at least a team in Mississauga. Any contacts here? Is there anyone in the Durham league that played in Mississauga? I would even be interested in helping get something started here (mind you, I am probably older than the most, so I don't know where I would begin.)

we had ladies well into their 50's playing in the spring league. Sure you can't run as fast as some of the younger girls, but I know our goalie was afraid of the shot coming from one of them.
