Hello Anna !
I saw your entry in The " Leards of Kingsboros " page and was intrigued. You see I was born and raised in Tryon PEI. MY father was Clinton LEARD. I live now with my family in Tramping Lake Saskatchewan... far from PEI but still have many relatives in PEI and we try to visit there every couple yrs if we can. My son now goes to college there.
I also have 18 and a 15 yr old daughters.
I was interested when you said your great ' something ' grandfather was from Tryon PEI. So were all mine! That ( being both yours and mine!) entire family dates back to a late-eighteenth century ( 1768 ) immigrant from parish Kilmunny near the market town of Carrackfergus in County Antrim,Ireland. The Leards had gone to Ireland earlier and changed name from Laird to Leard at that time. The PEI immigrant was Samuel Leard ( ? - 1792 ). He and his wife, Margaret, came to Tryon in 1768. They built a log house there and farmed. This property became known as the Abiteau Hill farm.
There is book which gives the entire descendency of the Leard families of Tryon. It was written in 1985
by Myrtle ( LeARD) Wood and was privately distributed for interested family. Myrtle passed away some years back, but the family history was taken up by her cousin, Waldron Leard. Waldron has a huge site on the
web, in which many things about the Leards and other famuilies can be accessed. ( just do a Google search for Waldron Leard of PEI ) He has apparently rewritten
and improved The Leard book of Myrtle Leard. I believe it is availiable if you are interested. WE have a copy of Myrtle's book. If you would like a copy
of it We can send you one. ( we'll photocopy ours )
Please let me know.
I like your site and we all think your cat is cute! We have a cat too. His name is Waif.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your " cousin " Donna (Leard)Butler
